Johanna
Ok, I am going to be doing this with my dd4th and I am getting a bit confused reading the TM. Can someone just give me some "quick start" tips. Like, can I just open the workbook and do it with her? What do I need the TM for? Do i need to pretest all those words on the first page? Also, what about those progress sheets in the back? Someone please walk me through this! Thanks:tongue_smilie:

We do one page per day. Extra days are spent on quizzes after each unit... maybe 3 or 4 (I do 20 words per day, repeating the previous day's mistakes). I only use the TM for the dictation questions. I don't do the pretests because we are not going to skip any of the material. Similarly, since we're using this only for spelling and I'm lazy, I don't do the charts either. There's a class of one; I have a pretty good idea of where she is. Besides, she's something of a perfectionist and I actively work to help her dwell on mistakes. Johanna
(I do 20 words per day, repeating the previous day's mistakes). What do you mean by this? DO you dictate 20 words per day from that big list...along with one worksheet a day? Thanks:bigear:
Sunshine State Sue
Can someone just give me some "quick start" tips. The easiest thing to do is just work on a page a day. At the end of the pages for the list, test using 10 reading words and 10 spelling words and if your student gets 9/10 right, move on to the next list. Otherwise, review more. can I just open the workbook and do it with her? Yes. What do I need the TM for? You will need the TM for dictation words and to check work, if you desire. It also gives good information on what you are trying to accomplish with the list. It also gives you information about which pages relate to reading, spelling, and vocabulary. Do i need to pretest all those words on the first page? No. I pretest because I will skip some of the reading related pages since ds reads well and needs to focus more on spelling and vocabulary. Also, I just tend to be a perfectionist and want to do it "right". Also, what about those progress sheets in the back? The perfectionist in me wants to see the progress, therefore I do them. If you want to just trust the program, go ahead. HTH! :D

Johanna
Thanks a lot. That helps. At this point in my homeschooling journey, I just need EASY open and go for the basics. I started to panic when I couldnt figure out MW. But, you made it more understandable.:001_smile:
