blondeviolin
Emmett knows must of his phonograms, but needs to work with fluency. He can read things like Dr. Seuss, but he is still sounding out about 30-50 percent of the words so he gets tired easily. He does not care for Bob books or Nora Gaydos. He has nearly all of the I See Sam books down or memorized. Suggestions?

twoxcell
You can find bunches of good early readers in the Step Into Reading and I can read Series. Look for the ones that aren't based on TV/Movie characters. I like a lot of the historical ones and classics like Frog and Toad. They progress nicely from level 1-4. I have a bunch listed on my blog if you need title ideas.;)
Farrar
Frog and Toad Little Bear Real Kids Readers When we were at this stage, we did two things. First, I used to just flip through every Level 1 and 2 at the library book to see if it was basically at the right level. Second, I used to use Progressive Phonics's method on real books and only have the kids read the words that wouldn't frustrate them and I'd read the read. Or I would just alternate pages. Nart
My 5 year old boy loves the Fly Guy series and the Lego City first readers. He can read more difficult books but these books he will pick up and read independently. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0439853117?ie=UTF8&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-City-Ready-Takeoff-Level/dp/0545219868/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1348365043&sr=1-9&keywords=lego+city+books
