Dh used to be a district manager for an international company. He lost his job a year ago. Dh doesn't have a college degree, just a high school diploma. He had worked his way up into the position (which usually requires a degree) but he could not have advanced any farther in the company without a degree.

He couldn't find a job last year, as there are so many sales people out of work in our area. Without a degree, he couldn't even apply to most jobs that he was otherwise qualified for.

An opportunity to open a business was presented to him so he went with it. 6 months in, and he knew it wasn't the job for him. It is a desk job and he struggled with sitting so much. So, he started applying to more jobs.

This summer, he started to apply for jobs that were below his experience level, but he figured that if he could get in the door with someone, maybe he could work on his degree and then move up in the company.

He got an interview with another international company. He spent a day in the market with a supervisor. The interview process went great but they said he was over qualified....so they offered him a job 2 levels higher. They hadn't even posted the position, they just gave him the job! LOL

This new job that was a level up from his old job and was not a position that he could have applied for at his old employer. With this job on his resume (combined with his DM position experience), it will open countless doors for him in the future.

He is nervous about the job because it is a different industry, and essentially a promotion all in one. He will be a natural in the position, as it was his favorite part of his old job. What he used to do occasionally, will now be his sole job.
