justLisa
DD loves listening to the types of stories in this book. WWE1 is too easy for her, but WWE2 is too much writing and no way she could do the dictation. She is just 6, but I have read her the first 3 passages and she can answer all of the questions, and today she gave a pretty good narration without me having to help her reword much. She is not reading fluently above 1st readers, but she is beyond that in the other areas. If that makes sense. So if you used WWE2 with a younger did it work out to be beneficial? Or any other ideas? ETA: When I say she is not reading fluently above first readers, I mean things like "Little Bear," "Danny the Dinosaur...." are EASY for her and she can read like a story. Maybe even parts to level 2 readers. She can read more difficult things very slowly, but seems to still remember them.
Lucy the Valiant
If she likes the stories, you could get the audio CD's of the full-length books of WWE's excerpts, and she could enjoy those (or if you have time, you could read them aloud to her). Then, when she is ready for the narration and dictations, the stories would be "old friends" - that is what unintentionally happened with my 7yo DD through WWE2 (they're twins, 8, now in WWE3, so not that young, but - it can work!). edeemarie
I am using WWE2 with my dd6 (she will be 7 in a little less than 2 months). She is not writing phobic at all and has never complained about the writing. Do you have WWE2? She is really only writing 1-2 sentences 3 days a week. The first day is her narration and I write, the second day is copy work, the third day is dictation of the sentence she copied on the third day, and the fourth day is narration (me writing) and dictation (her writing a sentence she narrated). I usually help her out with spelling by listing any unknown words on a board so she doesn't have to struggle through that. I would say if WWE1 is too easy, you may as well give WWE2 a try. You could always either take it at a slower pace or substitute in passages that may be more appropriate for her level.
Halcyon
My younger completed wwe2 when he was 6, and began wwe3. He recently turned 7 and is on week 24 of wwe3. So yes, for a child who likes writing and is good at understanding and summarizing,it can be done.
justLisa
Thanks. I'll stick with it and modify for now at her pace. I forgot that I condensed with DS because he was a year older and had him do the narration/copywork one day. She can write a few sentences but maybe I'll split it up more and go by the books schedule
3peasinapod
My only concern is the dictation. Dictation is a big part of WWE. If you redo WWE2 when she can do the dictations, thought would be okay, but if you continue onto WWE3, she will quickly be lost, as she didn't have that ramp-up of dictation with WWE2. The dictations can be beasts moving up in WWE. I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but those are my thoughts. :001_smile:
Kathryn
We are doing it. ODS will be 7 in two months and we are on week 11. He's done wonderfully. I was worried about starting narration and dictation, but he's surprised me greatly.

Mallory
There isn't any reason to hold back her narrating skils even if she isn't ready for the dictation. I always found it easier to keep moving through the books, even if I had to shorten and simplify the dictations. I also find the recomendations in the hardback text to be much shorter then the dictations in the workbooks, so if I was feeling like my kids were way behind it helped to refer to it. Yeah, we don't even do the WWE dictations. I get the reasoning, but heck *I* can't even do some of them in say, the WWE3 book. We do plenty dictation for spelling.
