Ummm ... I was wrong. But, that said, I don't pay close attention to Canadian politics unless someone really controversial is elected. You Canadians seem just so agreeable:). (Except, perhaps, some Quebecois. )

No. They seem quite agreeable.

Amongst themselves.

Just not with the rest of the country.

I disagree. I'm quite pleased with how our country is doing economically especially during a time when so many other countries are struggling.

:iagree: I'm pretty proud of my country and pretty proud of my province. I also find it rather shocking how little many of our American neighbors seem to know about us. I try pretty hard to keep up with American news and politics.

My poll choice wasn't included. I was sure it was Francois Mitterrand. :001_huh: But I just checked and he's been dead for 16 years. And he was the president of FRANCE, not PM of Canada. Oops.

I think the fact that I've heard of Francois Mitterrand should give me some extra credit, though. :)

And that's how we know you are not an American. canada-flag-14.gif

They’re the sort of scores that drive high-school history teachers to drink. When
recently asked 1,000 U.S. citizens to take America’s official citizenship test, 29 percent couldn’t name the vice president. Seventy-three percent couldn’t correctly say why we fought the Cold War. Forty-four percent were unable to define the Bill of Rights. And 6 percent couldn’t even circle Independence Day on a calendar.

But you didn't mention the scariest one: apparently quite a few don't know what date 9/11 happened on.

That's really terrifying... and, being the history loving American that I am, more than a little embarassing.

I got the answer right, and I gave myself extra credit for knowing it was a PM and not a president. ;)

I had to show my dh the poll options because I knew he would crack up. He's brainiac, but said, "When did Pierre Trudeau stop being Prime Minister?" I teased him, "Around the time he started dating Barbra Streisand." He retorts, "Huh. Times passes so quickly when one ignores Canadian politics."

I'm thinking some people need to widen their horizons a little and spend less time studying American history :D

Even I knew who it was and I live on the opposite side of the world :tongue_smilie:

So - anybody want to guess the name of Australia's President/Prime Minister :D

How about the name of our foreign minsiter who caused a big kefuffle when he was visiting the US - surely you have heard of him :bigear:

Not to mention Pierre Trudeau died 12 years ago.

The dating Barbra Streisand line is funnier than saying saying the man is dead, Bill.

Geez . ;)

On the subject of famouse Australians. ;) I was watching A Knight's Tale the other day, and asked dh the name of the actor who portrayed William. I wondered what other films he had made, as i wanted to see more of him. For whatever reason, the guy who rarely watches TV knew/ told me it was Keith Ledger, and that he had died several years ago. I felt so sad. He's (was) just a baby. Dh said, "Don't you remember when the The Dark Night Batman movie was released, and all the press about the actor who played the Joker? That was Ledger. He died during editing." I have no idea how I missed that. But now I want to see that Batman film. I'm also wondering why he was the Joker and not Batman. He seems like a Batman.

Poor kid. I don't think can ever again truly enjoy A Knight's Tale (film). :(

Canberra is the capitol city. But who knew you elected a Sheila? :D

Bill

Well done, Yankee, (Australian dialect usage,) but it's capital city. :tongue_smilie:As to your question, it was a surprise to most...

I do know Gillard is the PM of Australia.

What do you know that for? :confused1:

I wish more Canadians did, too. I recently heard a person from your province say that they didn't know what states bordered Alberta. It's just one, but they didn't even know that. :001_huh:

She's got think ankles, but better than Helmut Kohl :D

Bill

LOL I don't think that she used her ankles for thinking, but I can see the campaign posters now: Cankles the Original Think Tank.

Canada's parliament follows the Westminster System from our parent the UK with a Prime Minister as head of government and Governor General as head of state. The United State is a republic and the President is both head of government and head of state. Do I get my gold star now?

I have to admit that I keep thinking France's President is Sarkozy.
