Twilight Woods
SOTW is a fail here. I was looking at Sonlight's Core B for history/read alouds. I can get most of the books at my library so I would have to put out minimal $. ........ If you did Core B did your first grader enjoy it? frugalmama
We're about a month into SL Core B this year, and really loving it. DD keeps begging to do school, which is something she never really did before. Dd is a young 2nd though fwiw.
lilybrooke14
My first grader is liking it. We just got through the first few books, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and are headed into the second set.
KAM
I used it for part of the year last year with my first grader-and we are finishing it up this year in 2nd. He loves it. He actually reads many of the science and history books to himself, along with the reader. He likes to sit and study all the pictures in the books. A couple of the read-alouds kind of flopped-especially Understood Betsy! But for the most part, he doesn't complain about anything SL related we do. Spelling/math is another story! mschickie
We used it and dd really liked it. If you are just looking for history then you can just do mainly the history books for this level. The readers and read aloud books do go fully along with the history really until you get to Core D, then they really become a support for history. As for Core B, dd loved Usborne Time Travelers and World History as well as the Greek News. She was not always as thrilled with CHOW but that being said she learned things from it. She would spout off facts from it all the time and incorporate things into her playtime. I think it was not so much the material but the lack of pictures for her. Twilight Woods
I generally recommend Core B for 2nd grade, but we loved it! Oh! I just bought the 2009 IG. Can you tell me why you recommend it for 2nd? Since I was planning on doing Core B with her this year I would hopefully do Core C for 2nd...... She will be 7 in November.
