Sunday and Monday before Thanksgiving, I've heard it's busty starting Tuesday/Wednesday but how will it be Sunday and monday before Thanksgiving?

We went once that time of year. Never again. It was packed. We arrived on Sunday and left on Friday. By Wednesday it wasn't worth trying to go to the parks.

Well just to even out your responses, we went once Friday to Tuesday, and had no issues with crowds. It got steadily more crowded as the week went on, but even Tuesday was fine. We left Wednesday and did not go to the parks that day. We have never been to Disney probably a dozen times, though never during a peak time, and I have little tolerance for Disney crowds. We still did not find the crowd then to be excessive.

Are you familiar with the crowd calendars available on the Undercover Tourist website or the Easy WDW website? They are both freely available and pretty reliable: http://www.undercovertourist.com http://www.easywdw.com

They are projecting crowd levels of 8 or 9 (out of 10) on those days so VERY crowded.

Is there any way you can schedule your trip for early December? Very low crowds and lovely Christmas decorations. Best time to visit, IMHO.

Have you been before? If you have - would you be okay with some crowds that would maybe stop you form riding some of the attractions? If you are ok going for the shows, the parades, the atmosphere (and there is so much to do during the holidays other than rides) you'd probably be fine.

If you have never been - DO NOT GO THAT WEEK. WDW is wonderful - but not when it is crowded, and I know that some people I am friends with only went once during X-Mas, Thanksgiving, or Spring Break and said they didn't understand why we liked it and would never go back.

Well - we go when it isn't horribly crowded.....

My favorite time is the first week in January after New Year's day. Anyone who was going to do Disney for the holidays while school is out is already gone. And no one else has the money to go that time of year unless they've planned ahead. I'm not sure when they take down the decorations, but in years past, it was still decorated until the 2nd week of December.

ETA: The crowd calendar projects a precipitous drop in crowds Sunday Jan 6th.

It will not be AS crowded as later in the week, and it may not be AS high as the projections, but I can't imagine it's not going to be crowded.

The crowds will build from the Saturday on, peaking Wednesday, Thursday (Thanksgiving), Friday, and the following Saturday. Things will die down a lot on the Sunday, and then that whole week has great crowd projections.

Can you go then instead? We'll be there! What more could you want :D

We are arriving the Saturday after Thanksgiving (no parks), and leaving the following Saturday (again no parks). We always do Magic Kingdom twice, first and last day, so we can deal with some crowds on Sunday if we have to. We'll ride whatever doesn't have lines, do the Sorceror's Quest for the first time, look for hidden Mickey's, and generally enjoy the magic!

Is this a first-time family trip, or a repeat? What ages?

You have to be careful in January; it is starting to compete with July as a popular time for the Brazilian tour groups. We went in mid-January of this year, and omigosh the tour groups were fairly dreadful: very large, very young, very loud, very aggressive (regarding stuff like running through the parks, pushing past crowds, and so on).

They were an absolute horror at Universal's Harry Potter World, which is pretty small and cramped. The leaders carried those big flag poles for them to rally around, and were always jostling people with them, they were blowing whistles and using megaphones, ugh. It struck me as really strange, b/c they were all of an age (at least high school and possibly college) that didn't require constant supervision and staying together.

It wasn't as bad or noticeable at Disney World, because the parks are larger and more spread out, but they were a noticeable presence every day we were there; definitely the worst "off season" crowds I have ever experienced. They definitely diluted the Disney magic, lol.

I think January is fairly new - I had only read about July, and the crowd projections were definitely off. I haven't been able to narrow down the possible time frames any more than July and January, so we won't be planning anymore trips during the "slow" month of January.

Oh, that's really bad news. Honestly, the crowds seem to get worse every year. Pretty soon you'll be hard pressed to find a time that isn't crowded.

We went this past Thanksgiving (Sat.-Fri.) and we had a great time! We only waited more than 20 min. for 1 ride and most waits were less than 10 min. We even went to MK on Thanksgiving Day and did everything we wanted to do without a problem. Hollywood Studios was a little crowded on Wednesday, but again we got to do and see everything we wanted. I did do a lot of planning and made an itenerary for what order to do the rides in (touringplans.com) and we used fastpass for the really popular rides.

If you have a smartphone, they have an app too. I downloaded it before we went to Disney last week. They are dead on the money with their crowd calendar. They were also pretty accurate with the wait times for the rides. I can't even imagine going to Disney without that app.

There is no way I would attempt Disney on the days surrounding a holiday. Check out the website above, and find the weeks with a 4 or below.

If you can postpone a little over a week you'll have a much better trip crowd-wise. The weeks after Thanksgiving and before Christmas have low crowds, great weather, and the parks are beautiful.

Sunday and Monday before Thanksgiving will not be as bad as later in that week, but it will be getting busy.
