gingersmom
I am exactly the same way and so is my daughter (and my mother) We had my daughters ears pierced twice and both times they got infected and we had to let them close. I tried every kind of allergy free earring I could find and none worked.

edelweiss
I have a severe nickel allergy. The only thing that has worked for me is platinum earrings. However, they are far from affordable. :glare:
Kimm in WA
I can only wear gold-filled earrings.

stripe
So, have you found a company that sells affordable jewelry that truly is nickel free? :bigear: I have had success with Simply Whispers. It looks pretty good, as long as you avoid the really gaudy styles. It's cheap. I never had the finish wear off, and I did return items to them with no hassle at all. Mama Geek
Gold will not be cheap it is tied to the price of gold, same with all the other metal and they are high now. Something that you may also consider if you haven't tried is to coat ear rings and rings in clear fingernail polish. You may have to do it every so often but it does help a lot. They also make plastic sleeves and plastic backs for ear rings.
Guest Mildredpickett
Nickel allergy causes more contact dermatitis than any other metal allergy. It is second only to poison ivy in causing these reactions. Some show symptoms after only the briefest contact with items having nickel content, while others show no ill effect for years and then experience a break out. But once your body shows sensitivity, you will likely be allergic for lifetime. The beginning effects of a rash caused by metal allergy are seen on the ear shown to the left. Inexpensive jewelry is a common cause of nickel allergy as cheaper base metals frequently have high nickel content. But, more expensive jewelry can also be a culprit as is seen in the Gold Allergy section below.
