lorisuewho
Do you prefer to wear a beanie hat or headband/ear protectors or something else on your head?
AngieC
I only every wear a headband unless it's is in the teens or below, otherwise I overheat. I think it's going to depend on how you react to cold.
redsquirrel
I wear a wool hat even when I am not running. Heck, I wear a hat to sleep in during the winter. So, yes, I wear a hat while running during the winter. DH starts with a hat, but shoves it in a pocket or into his waistband when he gets too hot. HollyDay
Do you prefer to wear a beanie hat or headband/ear protectors or something else on your head? I prefer a headband/ear protectors for running. I get too hot with a hat. But, walking or strolling I wear a hat. Now, bear in mind, where I live, it is not that cold. We had very mild weather last winter.
lorisuewho
Thanks for the opinions. I was never a runner or even a walker before, but I've been in the groove since May and I want to continue through the winter. I wasn't sure if I should invest in a headband thing or just get a hat. catz
I have a few hats of various weights I use just for running or x-c skiing. It really depends on the temp and the wind.
MelAR05
I prefer a headband. Mine goes on when the temp is below 60. :tongue_smilie:I get a headache if my ears get too cold.
LarlaB
Headband. :) I have run in snow and freezing cold many times- and I don't have a "ton" of gear, just a few must-haves: tights/compression pants, long sleeve tech shirt, fleece vest, headband gloves (of course, handkerchief & lip balm) When wind is involved, I have a wind jacket layer as well :) I've always been very comfortable once I get warmed up and moving. :) The only thing that ever got chilly on the realllly cold days, were my upper arms & bum. My bum is ALWAYS cold during winter runs- so I started adding a running skirt on top of tights for extra layers so my bum won't be ice cold for 3 hours afterwards (apparently, I have a good amount of fat in that area- LOL) But you didn't ask about that, did you? LOL Good for you for running preparing to run during winters- its awesome!!!

Occasionally
Actually this list was quite helpful to me! Thank you. :iagree: Thanks so much! I'm starting to look into what I'll need for the winter, too.
Cinder
Dh is a runner. He likes to wear sweats and a wool hat. The hat has a cuff to give a double layer of protection over his ears. He's the kind who would never wear running tights. Ever. :D
Mommyfaithe
Headband...definitely For winter, my musts: Tights Thinsulate gloves Thin but warm socks Vest Turtleneck body skin
aliall
I will wear a fleece headband if it is in the 40s, and I have a wool headband that I wear when it is colder. Hats seem to trap in too much heat for me even when it is really cold. I also like to wear running gloves or a running top that has the built in fold over hand covers. I have running tights that I wear when it gets into the 40s and wear Smartwool socks (all year round!). I have cold induced asthma, so when it is really cold I have a Psolar half facemask that I love. It has a removable filter type thing that keeps the air warm and moist. I used to use a bandanna around my mouth, but the Psolar is warmer and fits tighter. I am going to ask dh for some yaktrax for Christmas, so I will be all set :) Also, it gets dark early in the winter, so I wear reflective velcro bands if I am going to be on the roads. lorisuewho
for those of you who wear tights, do you wear something over them in the winter or are the coldweather tights enough? I am going to ask dh for some yaktrax for Christmas, so I will be all set :) . What are yaktrax?

Tasia
I love the looks of this! Do you have the original? Is that weight enough in cold weather? I wear the original, but I'll admit that I don't run if it's absolutely freezing out. There are warmer versions available here.
