Wordless Wednesday

I've been taking pictures of people when they do not know they are being photographed--many I don't even know, but they make wonderful pictures!

While that isn't illegal, I find it unethical to post pictures of people you don't know on the Internet without their permission. Most people would not be happy to find pictures of themselves posted in such a manner. In addition, the thought of someone taking pictures of me secretly, no matter the reason, is pretty creepy.

Well, since the photos I used on my blog today are of people I do know, and they knew I was taking them (or their family knew I took them after the fact), and I talked about using photos on my blog (and they did not respond negatively), I don't have a problem posting these.

Many people take photos of people they do not know. It is part of our world. It part of photography. It is part of journalism...what is done with those photos does make a difference. I agree there. And when I do post pics, I remove anything that identifies who they are and where they come from.

I never take photos of my Amish neighbors because they do not want me to, even though their lifestyle would make fantastic pictures.

I must say, though, that what you are saying is not part of the internet. I've found photos of my kids and my family all over the place--no one ever asks for permission. No one even seems to think about it. I do not like it when they add names or addresses. Now that, I find, very scary.

FWIW.

Hey Kysha,

I can't make my comment stick, because your word verification box won't show me an image...

Anyway, just wanted to say, your *wordlessness* is killin' me. WHERE did you take that cute, fun photo?
