Aurelia Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 I'm sorry I haven't read the whole thread. Has Bambi been listed yet? It's not old enough to be copyright free, but not new either, so it tends to go unnoticed. Not yet, but I was just about to mention it, too. Other not-so-well-known hits here: The House Above the Trees (by the same author as The Wind Boy, which we haven't gotten to yet) The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles No Flying in the House The Invention of Hugo Cabret Because of Winn-Dixie (even bigger hit than The Tale of Desperaux here) the Green Knowe series, the first title is The Children of Green Knowe The Witches by Roald Dahl Tumtum and Nutmeg The Railway Children Nurse Matilda (sort of similar to Mary Poppins, and the basis for the Nanny McPhee movies) Liesl & Po The Lost Flower Children Quote
stripe Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 The House Above the Trees (by the same author as The Wind Boy, which we haven't gotten to yet) The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles No Flying in the House Ooh, I have Wind Boy on my shelf, and we read No Flying in the House a few months ago -- it was cute. I found a copy of Flossie and Bossie at a used book sale and only picked it up because it was illustrated by Garth Williams. Lo and behold, it's really expensive used online! Quote
Alicia64 Posted September 30, 2012 Author Posted September 30, 2012 You know what book rec. I never see that we really loved and still talk about? The first in the two-book series: First read: Angus and Sadie Second read: Young Fredle Both are just wonderful and are especially great for kids/families who love animals. Both are by Cynthia Voigt. For ages 5 through 12. I enjoyed them as much as my kids. Alley Quote
