Sleep number bed question--King size

Recommended Posts

Dh and I bought a new mattress last year. It was supposed to be a very good mattress bought at a well known reputable furniture store. It is NOT comfortable and dh and I both have backaches, etc.

We are considering a sleep number bed. My mom and my brother each have one and they LOVE them.........but they are both single and don't share the bed.

I was wondering how they are in a King size. Dh and I are both on the larger side. Sometimes though I like to cuddle up close so I would be sleeping more in the middle/closer to his side of the bed. Will that be uncomfortable if we have different sleep numbers? Can you feel the divider between the 2 sides?

I just hate the thought of spending $$$$ to get another bed that isn't comfortable for both of us.

I have been researching them also. The P5 is on sale right now so we are looking at that model. I am so tired of spending money on junky mattresses. I hope someone will give some advice about these beds. I'm a side sleeper and hubby is a back sleeper. I like slightly softer (but not sinking), he likes slightly harder. Thinking this might work for us. I hate spending the money but if it's a great bed, it would be worth it. Anyone?

Hoping we get some responses. I have not been sleeping well and both of us have had backaches. On vacation we had a mattress that I thought would be terrible--one of those "hard as a rock" ones.......and we both slept GREAT. I just wonder if I will have trouble sleeping in the middle of the bed. Sometimes I like my own side and sometimes I like to cuddle up.

:bigear: I don't have any advice/information for you, but I'm interested in other's responses. About 5 years ago, we purchased what was supposed to be a *decent* mattress and, well, it stinks. Like you, we are both uncomfortable and have backaches. I'm in the early stages of pregnancy right now and I am DREADING sleeping on this piece of carp mattress through the third trimester. Ugh.

So, we're looking into the sleep numbers. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, I'm also thinking about buying a cheap Ikea foam mattress--my son has one on his bed, and it's hard as a rock. I love it!

I am not going to be any help. From reading the title I thought you were wondering how many people could sleep in your bed. I though she must be wondering how many children could join her and her dh in that particular size bed.

 Because we co-sleep, I might have thought the same thing had sleep number beds not been on mind lately as well.

We have a queen size and both sleep with pretty low numbers on our sides. So in the middle we definitely feel the divider. If you want to meet up in the middle, it's like you're rolling up a hill a little. :001_smile: It would depend a bit on your numbers.

:iagree: I have the king size. My side is at 50, DH's is at 85. There is definitely a hill to get to DH's side, but if I stay on my side and he stays on his side and we meet in the middle, we're fine. I am not a snuggler while sleeping at all, so it's not a problem for me.

And yes, the bed is awesome even after 6 years. I hate having to sleep anywhere else because it's just not the same as my sleep number bed.

Mattresses are really cheaply made today, aren't they? I just ditched the 4 or 5 year old Costco Sealy and bought a Simmons top of the line. Yeah, right. Two months in, there are already depressions forming. Seriously? My childhood and early adulthood mattresses lasted for decades. Plus, they were real mattresses you could flip over. Today, you get half a mattress and they spin it as a benefit - the "no-flip" mattress! (as if it is a positive).

Thinking of a sleep number bed too. Friends of ours love theirs. Let us know how it works out.

Just wanted to add that you need go to a store and try one if possible. DH and I spent a couple of hours playing with them first. The staff was very patient with us. I was a huge skeptic. I had no intention of buying one but my back hurt a lot. I was newly pregnant and heading for a bedrest pregnancy -- I lost the baby eventually. DH begged me to let him buy the bed so that I would be comfortable. We have never looked back. We love select comfort. I really think you will know instantly if it feels like an air mattress to you. I was shocked that it didn't.

We did the sleep number bed.

I was sold on it. We spent a year deciding to get one. Ended up hating it.

We did the split king. It was like sleeping in a hammock. You have the stiff part on each side and then your bubble you sleep on in the middle. I really thought it would fill in and be supportive. But it just felt more like a hammock or an air mattress.

I was totally against a tempurpedic. But once we managed to get out of the sleep number situation we spent forever picking out a tempurpedic. I've never slept so well in my life.

I have a lot of back problems but I still sleep now. What I'd give you have had one all these years!

I was sure I'd feel like I was drowning in the bed. I'm claustrophobic and thought I'd feel horrible in the bed. I was wrong though.

Oh, this is true. I loved mine around 35 and it is a little like climbing out of a hole but the comfort made it worthwhile. I recently increased to a 50 and it is pretty even with dh now. We adjust the bed for our needs when necessary.:iagree:
