Sherri in MI
There seem to be a lot of SAT & ACT prep books out there. How does one decide which is the best for your student? My ds is 8th grade & will be taking one of the the two tests. Would the College Board guide be the best one for the SAT? I have no idea. Crimson Wife
Aside from the released SAT's available from the College Board, I have heard very good things about Erica Meltzer's The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar, Dr. John Chung's SAT Math, and PWN the SAT. mathwonk
I prepared my kids from the college board book of sample actual old sat's. i myself never prepped at all, but took basic hs classes and also took math contests in high school. that contest practice may have helped as much as sat prep as i scored something like 735 and 797 on verbal and math. i only took it once, as was usual in the old days. my kids did not outscore me overall but both scored well over 700 on math and near 700 on verbal, and at least one of them got 800 on math, beating me, but he may have tested more than once. i am just suggesting that merely learning the material is perhaps sufficient to test well. but i recommend taking some sample SAT tests. I.e. in my opinion a $20 sample test book may well be as good as a $500 prep course from kaplan.
