FairProspects
Can anyone recommend some really cool Astronomy documentaries for an avid science-loving 8 y.o.? Would love something that goes into depth and includes fun stuff like black holes, astrophysics, etc. in an age-appropriate way (not Teaching Company Lectures). I need something that will keep him busy while I work with his brother but he has been complaining that the videos I select for him are too boring and just go into the basics of astronomy over and over. serendipitous journey
What have you got for him? Assuming you've done How the Universe Works, something with Hawking (that links to "Into the Universe") or Neil Degrasse Tyson (Origins), or narrated by Morgan Freeman (Through the Wormhole) comes to mind. If we're still too dilettante ... Brian Greene (Fabric of the Cosmos) always makes my head work hard. Not astronomy so much: here's a Nova based on Greene's Elegant Universe: that's physics but still supercool :) . You may have already seen these? The Universe from the History Channel The Elegant Universe from Nova Origins (also Nova I think) Extreme Astronomy from BBC -- I've forgotten if we've already watched this, had it bookmarked -- this is a YouTube link! I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty. Edited September 12, 2012 by quark added extra info
