KristenR
We LOVED The Magician's Nephew and The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe. We tore through those books like new Narnia-addicts! We're about 3 chapters into the Horse and His Boy and are not "feeling it" yet. Does this book pick up? Just curious. We won't drop it because my girls are interested enough but we all seem strangely subdued about this one. And yes, I realize I fell into the trap of reading the series in the chronological order and not the published order. I wrote about it for those of you who may be ignorant of the differences too. Professormom
It does pick up. I remember feeling the same way you did at about that point. :001_smile: Also, it will definitely be important if you plan to go through to the Last Battle, because there is some tie in to the overall series ending. Recovering Sociopath
It's different in feel from all the others, but definitely picks up.
Jeeves
I agree, it does pick up, so keep plugging away! Out of the 7 books, if I ranked them by how much I enjoy them, it's about 6 (I won't tell you what I would put as 7, since I don't what to influence your thinking! :D), but even so, I like that book better as an adult than I did as a child. Have fun reading the whole series!
...................
It's my favorite Narnia book other than The Lion... It's a touching tale in many personal ways of the personal lessons learned by several characters.
Susie in MS
Loved, loved, loved THAHB! :D
Lara in Colo
This book is my favorite of the entire series!!! I learned a lot about God from this book.

Delighted3
This is one of our favorite books in the series. My kids really liked it. Joy
TriciaS
Good to know this ahead of time - I just checked that one out from the library so we can start on it after we finish the book we're working on right now!
Classical Country Mama
Agreed with everyone who said this one feels different. I also agree with those who said this is their favorite book in the series. (Apparently I'm feeling QUITE agreeable tonight. Who knew.) One of my favorite sets of stories is Arabian Nights, and I'm pretty sure one of the reasons I'm so crazy about THAHB is it's similar in style to that sort of tale. Once Shasta meets his traveling buddy, who might as well be a young Scheherazade (with maybe some Anne Shirley mixed in), you'll see what I mean. It's gorgeous and rich and hilarious. mhaddon
Honestly, it was the most boring book for us and while it did pick up- we never really talk about it when discussing the books. It however, will tie in and is required.
IsabelC
I actually like HAHB better than LWWD. I think the comedy is better and the characters are more interesting. Probably my biggest criticism would be that the racism is more apparent in this one than the other books.
Rivka
I could never stand it as a kid, and as an adult I find the racial elements really uncomfortable.
warneral
I loved it 1- perhaps you should try the audiobook. The accent and voices were awesome. http://www.amazon.com/The-Horse-His-Boy-Narnia/dp/B001G7RC8O/ref=pd_sim_b_1.
