It looks like I might need the teacher manual, student manual, workbook, and maybe the cd. Do I need all of this? Do you add anything else to Cambride Latin? I think it really depends on your background: some home educators find that the books are not explicit enough in their teaching for non-specialists to use effectively. It might be better used by those with an extensive background in Latin. I haven't taught it myself, however, so it's just worth having a look to see if it looks clear to you. mumto2 Posted September 11, 2012 Share Posted September 11, 2012 We are using it as a supplement. I was able to buy several years worth of Cambridge Latin textbooks really inexpensively. We do not have the student book or teachers guide which you definately need IMO without other background or resources. They are well prepared. I have been considering buying them because they would probably make my life easier. I am lazy and tired of preparing my own tests.:lol: Before buying anything go to the Cambrigde latin website and try it. Most of the text is right there. You really do not need anything else. After a couple of units you will have a good idea of what you need in order to complete book 1. Quizlet also has plenty of vocabulary Cambridge I practice for free. We have always used Memoria Press and Henle. I bought Cambridge as an inexpensive supplement to help prepare for the National Latin exam which requires more Roman culture and geography then Henle has. tjarnold Posted September 11, 2012 Share Posted September 11, 2012 My son is in Cambridge Latin 3, and he much prefers it to any of the other Latin programs he's used. We have the student text, teacher's manual, Omnibus workbook, audio CD, and tests. We also have a subscription to the online site. We probably don't really need all these materials, but as he is mostly teaching himself, I wanted him to have access to as many materials as would make his job easier. I do have the workbook for one of the levels, but it doesn't look all that useful to me. I've never had a teacher's manual, but things seemed pretty self explanatory on their own. I do have a copy of Wheelock's and a Latin dictionary which are both occasionally helpful, but I suspect I could get by without them. There's a lot of info on the web. The best thing about it (according to my son who probably used it more than he should have) is that it has all of the Latin passages and you can click on any word and find it's English meaning. We have been using Cambridge and we are in Stage 3 of book 1. I really like it so far. I like the stories. We have the student book, teacher manual, test and CD. elfgivas Posted September 13, 2012 Share Posted September 13, 2012 we are in year 2 of cambridge latin. i took latin in high school using it, and that almost 40 years ago - and i remember so much of it! that alone is a good endorsement for us. i use everything except the cd... we use the tests, the workbook, the teacher's manual, the textbook, the website..... if i hadn't studied latin, we would use the cd, too, but its just simpler for me to read it. and for the latter years, there is an option to have an online teacher from england. there is a cost, but i reckon if i am struggling at any point, or if time management makes it worth the cost, then this option will help us finish it out. so far, so good though. :001_smile: it is probably our favourite curriculum choice of all time... it and FIAR. ann Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
