Colleen Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I've mentioned before that we don't do regular dental visits. I took my older three in four years ago; the younger two have never been. My oldest son kept asking me lately, "Am I ever going to go to the dentist again? What if I need braces or something?" It's like he started realizing that the "good" mothers check off these boxes, while his own mom...well, doesn't.;) I very nearly started to get a guilty conscience. Egads! So yesterday the older three and I biked up to town to the dentist's office. I staved off the fluoride treatments ~ "But you live in town and have fluoridated water, right? You don't? Well, the boys brush with fluoride toothpaste, right? They don't? So you actually do want them to have the fluoride treatments, right? Oh, you still don't?" I did concede to x-rays for the older two, since they'd never had them. And I did say I'd think about sealants, even though I'll likely never get around to having them done. As I sat there waiting, I kinda wondered if I wasn't going to learn to my surprise that they all had mouths full of cavities, or be referred to an ortho or some such. Turns out they're unofficial poster children for the dental advantages of drinking raw milk. Yee haw! I paid a pretty penny to find that out, but now I can check off the box, too.:D Quote
sleepy Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Good for you! Hey, come to think of it, it's been almost 3 years since my 3 oldest have been to the dentist. Guess I need to check off that box soon, too. :tongue_smilie: (glad I'm not alone in the imperfect mothering category :001_smile:) Quote
Miss Peregrine Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 YAY for healthy teeth! Taking my kids to the dentist is a huge source of stress because my mom used to threaten restriction if we ever got a cavity.:glare: I don't want to feel like a bad mom. LOL Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I'm so glad that they had a good dental visit! That isn't a bad box to get checked off now and then, dental problems if left untreated can affect someone's whole health- though it sounds like your boys are healthy as young horses! (BTW - I never went to the dentist until I was 17 and got my first cavity!) Quote
