edeemarie
How much have they changed through the different editions? Is it necessary to have the 3rd or can you work well with the previous editions? Anyone know what the differences between the 1st and 2nd editions are? I seem to like older editions of books and I am wondering if this will be the same. Thanks!
Hunter
I recently repurchased the 1st edition. Over the years I have owned them all and lost them all. Long story :tongue_smilie: Actually several long stories. I'd like to repurchase the 3rd too, but if I can only have one, I want the first. OrganicMom
Thank you for this post/thread. I have been wondering this, too!
mumto2
I have a first and a third. I love the first one. It is the one I go to for inspiration. I have read it so many times. The third gives more detailed suggestions but is so detailed some of the basics feel like they are missing. I loan my third to people. I actually bought it to loan. I loaned my first one a couple of times--I was afraid of not being able to replace it and a bit stressed waiting for its return. I can loan the third and not worry. SilverMoon
First and third. I can't remember if there's anything particular to the second one to make it worth reading separately. The first one had more explicit instructions for teaching writing in the grammar stage sans WWE. The third edition has better instructions for teaching writing for the logic stage. loftmama
Yay, I was just wondering this very thing. I've had the first edition for years and love it. Recently I wondered if the more recent editions would be better since the first one doesn't mention Story of the World. So I borrowed a friend's second edition but decided I really wanted the more recent one. I thought I would sell it until I read this thread. Since mine is so well-loved and well-marked, tbh, I think I'll keep it as well. Thanks for posting and sharing!
nansk
I have the second and I got the first edition from the library yesterday. Based on my initial reading, I like the first one better. It just seems more personal, with longer personal testimonies from the authors, plus the emphasis on working with your child's school and reading whatever books you love and just following the general plan. I will post back in a few weeks after I've read the first one properly. The third edition has better instructions for teaching writing for the logic stage. I also intend to get the third edition from the library later, specifically for this.
edeemarie
Thanks everyone! I thought I remembered good feedback from the 1st edition. I ordered it pretty cheap from Amazon- I only wish my library had the 3rd edition. I have only read the 2nd edition, which is the only one I can get from the library.
