Twinmom Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I just saw the sticky and wanted to say, "thanks!" It's kind of you to look for chat options to accomodate us, and for not eliminating rep points. We appreciate what you are doing. Feel free to delete this if need be, just keep the :grouphug:s that go with it!

Twinmom Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Hmmm...I kept mine, you might email admin and ask.
beansprouts Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 That's funny, I lost 8 points when the thread disappeared. Have you seen Genie's new post count? I think she was almost 3000, now she has less than 1000. Edit: I just realised you said points. I still have all mine, but the comments are gone. I only took a few from that thread anyways.

beansprouts Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 It's okay, Ladies. We needed to step outside the thread sometime. Now take a deep breath... There you go... Baby steps... You can do it!

Tammyla Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I'll send a few your way tomorrow.:grouphug: That's funny, I lost 8 points when the thread disappeared.
Colleen Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Or you can come here. Maybe I don't understand since I wasn't involved in the ginormous thread, but why do some of you feel the need to now start chatting on Yahoo? How is that different from this? I feel kinda bad if people are going to divide their time between both places, or visit here less. Like I said, maybe I'm just way out of the loop and missing something....?

We just are trying to find a place to chat to our heart's content without slowing down these boards and making people irritable enough to be glad we're gone. :D

Like I said, maybe I'm just way out of the loop and missing something....? I think it's just that we want to respect the board here (without causing in problems in the flow of the board), but still be able to chat. In a funny way that thread brought people together who share a common thread. It was a way to laugh and enjoy each other without having to worry about it becoming ugly. As corny as it sounds, I feel I have gained a few friends solely from that thread...and isn't that what were here for...to share experiences with people who have that commonality between us? Please don't take any offense to this. I mean it in the most respectful way. I just feel like I needed to share my experience with it. Hope that explains it a bit! Btw...another group to chat with would never interfere with my ability to posts both places! :D My heart is here at this board, but it's fun to chat with other ladies as well!

Tammyla Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Yes...it felt a little like the old board for me. What do you mean by "chat"? (Keep in mind this board is about as techie as I get. LOL) How is that any different from posting here? My heart is here at this board, but it's fun to chat with other ladies as well! Other ladies who don't post at this board, you mean? Sorry for being so dense.

Other ladies who don't post at this board, you mean? Sorry for being so dense. Chatting is like instant messaging, in a way. It's not in a threaded post type of format. It (possibly) doesn't use as much bandwidth. And it's more of a "Hey, what's up" kind of feel than a topical thread. I think she was meaning that not everyone enjoys that kind of posting, but she enjoys chatting with other people who do too. But we can't do that here, at least not yet. :)

So this way you can post away, and not have to worry about it being at the expense of SWB. When I say "chat" I mean talking about anything that may have nothing to do with homeschooling. I know you can usually do that on the General Boards, but that thread just kept going, each post feeding off the last so it never really ended. Don't apologize for the questions..I am so ignorant in the ways of the computer...I'm good to be here.

I feel like the little kids that gets locked out, jumping up to peek in the windows to see what is going on. :tongue_smilie: It was a thread titled, How in the world does someone get 2000 posts? Well, it ended up having 18,000+ posts, and was apparently slowing the boards down. It was real and it was fun...it was real fun!:D

I thought maybe it was the thread killer one.
Jenny in Atl Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Ahhhh, thank you, I remmeber that one. I thought maybe it was the thread killer one. The thread killer is no more as well... locked away. The new motto should be, be friendly, but please try to be brief.
percytruffle Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 The thread killer is no more as well... locked away. Now that is really sad. There are some things that you think will always be there and then they are gone....and it was still in the prime of its life.

The new motto should be, be friendly, but please try to be brief. We are doing the best we can to keep these boards functioning. If threads that have no purpose other than to "make a post" are kept to a minimum, threads with actual CONTENT do not need to be brief. I hope this makes sense. SWB

Sorry if I was offensive in any way. I understand fully why the thread needed to be deleted. Please feel free to delete my post as well if it is a problem.
Susan Wise Bauer Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Jenny, :) Sorry too. It's been a long day. SWB
