J9Mommy
Hi. I would like to stick with Singapore math, but right now I can not afford to order the 2A/2B for my daughter. Luckily, my son will be doing some Key to Series workbooks for now, so he is set. I don't want my daughter to fall behind. Is there anything free/inexpensive out there that mimics Singapore math ? It might take 1-2 months until I can order the real stuff. I am also looking for the same recommendations language wise. We are covered with phonics/spelling right now. I had wanted to purchase MCT, but once again it will have to wait. I tried to do a google search, but there are so many iffy sites now ! Thanks in advance :)
J9Mommy
I forgot to mention I will also be ordering my science through Singapore, which is another reason I am waiting 1-2 months. I wanted to do one lump order. I just need something ot cover us for a few weeks.

Chelli
I would recommend MEP. It's free and very conceptual like Singapore. We love it!

savmom
I forgot to say that if you have a FB account, I can give you links to several groups where we post links to free curriculum. They are organized by subject and there are HUNDREDS of them!

Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
This is a great site for math. They have math by the week up to grade 6 (or 8) http://mathlearnnc.sharpschool.com/cms/One.aspx?portalId=4507283&pageId=5048438 Scroll down for weekly work
nansk
While I like MEP very much, I would not recommend it for just a few weeks. Instead, you could download and print the free samples from Math Mammoth. The SharpsSchool link posted by a pp is also good.
Zoo Keeper
This is another free math site I have drawn from; my boys like doing the leveled practice and problem solving pages.
Farrar
There's lots of free grammar out there too. KISS Grammar is one, but there's also things like this Scott Foresman grammar. And Grammarland is free too - it's vintage. Plus both Primary and Intermediate Language Lessons.
Hunter
If it were me, and I was definitely going to wait for curricula, I'd want to plan short stand alone units for this period of time, with very specific goals. Or do a fun unit study. Maybe something about elections. Or seasons and autumn. Or a lovely literature book. How is your library? Do they have the Sir Cumference math series? Do they have any picture book grammar series? Does your library have How to Tutor? This book combined with math drills fromhttps://www.xtramath.org/ is effective, and what I am using for math. There is a $9.99 Kindle version. I started with the Kindle version and it is good enough, but I do prefer my hardcopy version--not as much as I thought I would, but I do prefer it. The African Waldorf curriculum is free for grades 1-3, and includes math. Do you have a printer and can you afford to print with it right now. My main printer died and I only have a little ink left in my very expensive to print scanner/printer, so I had to TOTALLY switch up my curriculum, in mid August. It's funny, because it was the best thing that ever could have happened. I discovered How to Tutor and and tried some other things. Many of the free resources require printing, and are too awkward on the kindle, so don't do me much good. Does your library have Writing Road to Reading? Hopefully the 6th edition. All the editions teach great manuscript handwriting, but the 6th edition has the best cursive instructions. I teach handwriting with the Spalding WRTR cursive hand (with uppercase manuscript) in the order listed in HTT. For language arts, now would be a great time to work intensively on handwriting. pitterpatter
Is there a reason you order directly from Singapore and both 2A/2B at once? I order from cbd.com when they run free shipping with a $35 order. Plus, I only order one semester of books at a time. The books themselves are usually a bit cheaper there and shipping is free. I ordered from Singapore the first time...never again. Shipping is high and so very slow. I probably would just review what was learned in SM 1. Play the games that were in the HIG, print free worksheets for review, etc. If you have Cuisenaire Rods, play the games at educationunboxed.com. wapiti
Instead, you could download and print the free samples from Math Mammoth. :iagree: for a few weeks, this is what I would do, since the general approach is so much like SM
brill123
Hi zookeeper, Could you kindly give me the links for Grade 2,3 & 4 leveled Practice and problem solving Maths ?
FO4UR
I think MEP compliments Singapore nicely. If you are just filling a couple of months, I'd go through the lessons with a highlighter and just cherry pick problems or sections that could use some review or enriching. (iow - I'd review yr1 for a couple of months.)
Zoo Keeper
Hi zookeeper,Could you kindly give me the links for Grade 2,3 & 4 leveled Practice and problem solving Maths ? No problem... grade 2 leveled practice, and grade 2 problem solving; you may want to look at the teaching pages for grade two to help... grade 3 leveled practice, grade 3 problem solving, and grade 3 teaching grade 4 leveled practice, grade 4 problem solving, and grade 4 teaching ETA: the math background sections are very helpful for teaching as well; they give scripted explanations and examples (just in case you have forgotten how to add fractions...) grade 2 grade 3 grade 4 Edited September 8, 2012 by Zoo Keeper

brill123
hi zookeeper, are you using only this math program for kids?
Zoo Keeper
No, it is not our main program, although I do think it could stand alone, if needed. Depends on your comfort level as a teacher, and your child's love/hate of math. I found the explanations and *expectations* clear and easy to understand. One of my boys found the pages on decimals/fractions in the third grade material to be very helpful when he hit a roadblock. We use a variety of math programs (Rod and Staff, MEP, Singapore, Miquon...) because I have a variety of kids. ;)
foxbridgeacademy
Someone may have mentioned this already, but you could try the vintage book (on google books) called Grammarland. It's fun, story-like, and all the kids I know really like it.
