Shawn On the Border
Ds16 was in ps last year, and they gave out report cards every 6 weeks. His transcript shows yearly grades for his first high school, and semester grades for the second school he went to. Do you give your teens report cards or just semester grades? If you give report cards, how often do you give them?
regentrude
Semester grades only. In some subjects, my kids do not even generate any grades until their end-of-semester final exam. Public schools are big on communication with the parents and holding teh students accountable and may actually be required to give frequent progress reports and grade cards. Ellie
I never gave mine report cards, but if I had, it would have been every 9 weeks. Generally, transcripts just show semester grades.
Jenny in Florida
I don't give report cards in high school. I figure grades at the end of the year and include those in the portfolio and, of course, on the transcript. But that's it.
Joani
I'll be keeping track of his grades as we go, so he could ask me at any point what his grade is in each course, but I won't be doing official report cards.
jhschool
I have an Excel file where I write what the grade is so far in the school year. If someone else is teaching the course I write IP (in progress).
bobbeym
I log semester grades on the transcript. Ongoing grades in a spreadsheet that he can check whenever he wants. I only print a report card if it's needed for discounted admission somewhere.
EKS
I issued yearly grades but computed grades about once per month.
MerryAtHope
My kids see their grades as they go, but I don't issue report cards. On their transcript, they'll have grades per the class (either full credit or half-credit classes). Merry :-)
