hsmom2011
We just started with Elemental History (Adventures in America) this week. I love it, but I'm afraid it might not be quite enough for my 2nd grader. Does anyone use this alongside another program or supplement with something else? ByGrace3
What about Truthquest history? Seems like an easy supplement.
lorisuewho
What about Truthquest history? Seems like an easy supplement. I don't use the curriculum you mentioned, but I do use Beautiful Feet American history and I supplement wtih TruthQuest. TruthQuest is an easy way to supplement or to make a full curriculum. It is very flexible. I love it.
SevenDaisies
Are you doing the recommended reading? I just started using this with a 3rd grader. I kept looking for the perfect spine, but because I hadn't found it, we weren't doing history. I finally settled on this. As a standalone I do not think it would be enough, but with the additional reading I think it could work. I am using the read-alouds as readers, and I am using some of her recommendations for picture books, but have substituted quite a number of them with titles I think are a little meatier or that I have on hand. walkermamaof4
We loved Beautiful Feet's Primary level. I also bought Truthquest and POE, but didn't end up using either. BF was enough and the books were lovely.
wearejenandkev
When my son was in second, we used MFW Adventures.....it was a perfect introduction to U.S. history. It is intended for 2nd-3rd grade. That was one of my favorite years of homeschooling! Jennifer
jengjohnson
Are you using it w/ the read-alouds and extra readers? We are and I find that it's enough, but my 2nd grader is young and wiggly. She's getting a lot out of it, especially from those components.
Mrs Twain
I like these two together (by Edward Eggleston): --A First Book in American History --Stories of Great Americans for Little Americans You could also use the Mara Pratt volumes, but I recommend pre-editing, particulary the volume about the Civil War. I do think they are worth the time. They have been among my kids' favorite history books.

Jennifer I used this with my oldest when she was in 2nd (we loved it too :) ), but eventually sold it to purchase other curriculum. It's unfortunately more than I can spend right now, so I have had to rule it out. I have decided to use the free lesson plans from Guest Hollow along with the Elemental History. We won't use the workbooks they suggest, but I think dd will enjoy the History Pockets. She is definitely a hands on learner. I have decided to stretch their 2 year plans over 3 years so we can do it at a bit of a slower pace. This will work out perfectly since we don't start the 4 year cycle until 5th grade. :)

We are using these above mentioned books this year and I really think they are a good match for this young age.
