SunnyDays
We are a "swing" state for the election this year, and the political commercials are already going strong, at least one every break. The national election has been mentioned about 700 times the past week already. Now that Labor Day has passed, the state election commercials are starting. I need to visit a friend in a very, very solid red or blue state (where they don't care enough to run *too* many commercials) and I'm not sure I care which one at this point. :D Otherwise I may go bonkers. Now, whatever you do, don't suggest I simply turn off the television. I mean, that's just crazy talk and a girl has her limits!!
ErinE
I was sick of it by the end of the Olympics. Netflix and Amazon Instant Video are my friends.
aggieamy
This is an excellent time to go no-TV. You don't even realize there is an election going on. Unless you're on facebook, then you really can't avoid it.
MrsBasil
I have switched to Netflix, Hulu, and On Demand since the Olympics ended. They are stalking me on Youtube now. :001_huh: Swing states are so fun.
Shannanlee
I don't watch tv anymore. I live in a swing state too. It is so annoying I don't want to vote for either one at this point.
IsabelC
Come and live in Australia where we're too lazy to have presidential elections and just use some other nation's head of state as our own ;)
Bug's Mom
I'm in Wisconsin. We've had several recall elections already...now this. I'm tired. But I will vote.
Delirium
You could come here but we don't have a tv so you'd go even crazier :( Hope you survive!
Mom-2-7
You could come stay with us but you have to babysit!
lewelma
I need to visit a friend in a very, very solid red or blue state We are not red or blue, but there is definitely not an election here. I do have a sofa bed but only 1 bathroom so you might have to wait a bit. :001_smile: Right now the national news is all about the Aluminium Smelter plant laying off 100 workers. Quite a big deal. Elizabeth in MN
I live in a red county in a blue state. You can come visit us, we have DirecTV and XM Radio, so you can avoid those ads too : D However, there is Facebook. I'm about to knock the heads of my family members on FB. Grover
What are you like with a paint brush? You can come here... no elections, wrong hemisphere :-)
fraidycat
Now, whatever you do, don't suggest I simply turn off the television. I mean, that's just crazy talk and a girl has her limits!! Well, you could come visit me. I don't have a clue what "color" our state is - and don't much care. BUT, you'd have to live without the t.v. because we don't have cable - only Netflix. :) As far as I'm concerned there really is not an election happening - or any other news for that matter. No t.v., no Facebook, and no politics allowed on The Hive. I really do live in my own little bubble.
ShannonS
Will provide room and board in Hawaii for 20hr/week babysitting. :D We do not have a TV
SKL
I don't watch TV either, and it is blissful at times like this. People who live here do watch TV. They turn up the State of the Union Address every year so I can't avoid it even by hiding in my room. :glare: But at least I don't have to watch the commercials. ETA: Oh wait, there are still commercials tacked on to the beginning of most of the videos I try to watch on the internet. I've seen one about the 2nd Amendment about 20 times now. Bah. At least I can mute them.
DawnM
I don't think there are fewer ads in a non-swing state. I live in NC which is considered a swing state (although after watching our state not even be counted until 3 weeks after the election I am not sure we even matter). I moved FROM California. I do believe we had just as many ads there during election years, in fact, possibly more as we had all those props to vote on there. Mimm
No TV here too. We do get the junk mail though. We like to discuss the fearmongering and half truths (and sometimes outright lies) politicians use in these ads. :)
Dmmetler
I'm hiding a lot of people on FB temporarily. I don't watch much TV except for via Netflix/On Demand. However, I'm getting really, really frustrated about my Sunday School class essentially turning into "why you should vote republican" every....single....week. It's tempting to see if DD could go with her friend to Sunday School, and then come an hour later for the actual service...Hmm.
I talk to the trees
We don't have a tv, but we do watch some shows through Hulu online. And although we're in NY, we keep getting ads for someone running for a VA senate seat! There.is.no.escape!!!
Annie G
We live in Illinois and I haven't seen any ads on tv for either Obama or Romney.
littlebug42
We are getting it on TV, Youtube, Hulu, everywhere. Add to that the fact that I am a registered independent, I am getting multiple phone calls every day on top of it. It has been going on like this here since May. I have had more than enough. We are actually thinking about getting rid of our home phone service because of it. If normal people bothered us this much, it would be considered harassment. Well, I feel harassed. Also, on facebook, I love you, you are my friends. I honestly don't care who you vote for just shut up about it.
SquirrellyMama
I want to live in a state where I'm not getting a presidential ad on Hulu every time there is a break. Lady Marmalade
I'm in Wisconsin. We've had several recall elections already...now this. I'm tired. But I will vote. :iagree: We have the DVR to deal with the commercials for the most part. It's the phone calling that is already driving me batty. At least twice a day we're getting calls from random people from both parties telling us why not to vote for the other guy. We let the answering machine pick up, so we can just erase, but it's still obnoxious.
DianeW88
No political commercials on TV in Utah. Ever. They simply don't bother. It's soooooo nice. Come visit!!
ocelotmom
This is an excellent time to go no-TV. You don't even realize there is an election going on. Unless you're on facebook, then you really can't avoid it. We're no TV, but I still have to listen to Romney singing the Star Spangled Banner approx. every 20 minutes on the TVs at work. (That's a commercial that doesn't make me want to vote for either candidate.)
ErinE
Also, on facebook, I love you, you are my friends. I honestly don't care who you vote for just shut up about it. Um, yes. Had to hide friends from both sides of the aisle. Your scathing attacks on [WORST CANDIDATE EVER!!!!] aren't going to change my vote. And your :001_wub: for [MOST AWESOME CANDIDATE TO WALK THE PLANET] won't help.

Often we get 2 presidential ads for every break on Hulu. No fair:glare: I actually prefer political ads over ads for Wheat Thins or Febreze or whatever. Almost all my ads on Hulu are political, so I find it interesting that other people are able to watch Hulu instead of cable television to avoid political ads. We don't have a television, but I do watch things online (Hulu has great documentaries for history!)

momma2three
I live in MA, so no presidential ads... but we do have a heavily contested Senate race, with commercials every 10 minutes. And the phone calls. Ugh. I turned my ringer off until November.
stripe
What amuses me is all the polls and visitors are for my husband. Hello, I vote too.
SunnyDays
yeah, that doesn't work. I get phone calls and people at the door. See, that's part of the problem as well. Even if I chucked the TV out, the phone would still ring every hour with recorded messages or people wanting to "get an opinion" on the race. My opinion is that I want it to go away and I want the callers to leave me alone!! Hmm... Australia and New Zealand are looking appealing about now, LOL!! goldberry
What's weird about it is that it MUST work somehow or they wouldn't be doing it. But the commercials (and I mean BOTH SIDES) are just empty rhetoric or vicious, out-of-context attacks. So my question is, who is actually BUYING this stuff that it is actually working?? It's pitiful...

goldberry
The .01% of the population that are swing voters. I wouldn't think that. I live in a swing state. Most of the folks I know that are swing voters take the time to make fairly educated choices. They despise the commercials also. The swing voters I know tend to be skeptical enough to investigate. Maybe I know a different group of swing voters though! I presume there is another group that votes for whoever they are not angry with at the moment. That group certainly could be affected by advertising!
