neveryoumindthere Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Do you think you could get by without the kits/books? We have a pretty good library system so I'm not as worried about the books, but are the kits something you could put together on your own? or is it worth it for this mom of 2 and one on the way to just buy it and be done with it :D What about the weather kit? same question Quote
ABQmom Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I used Noeo Biology I a couple of years ago. We loved having the books, but yes, if you have a good library, you could easily get by without them. I thought having the kits all prepared for me was great. If I had had to gather the supplies for the experiments, the experiments would not have gotten done. Seems like I remember most of the stuff being readily available, but not all of it which would have hindered us in getting the experiments completed. I can't remember exactly about the weather kit. mamato3 all-boy boys Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 (1) You can make your own weather kit. It was really mediocre at best. I'm sure any library will carry a book that has ideas on how to create a weather station. (2)Yes, you can get by withouth the YSK in my opinion. There are some neat "experiments" (not really experiments on all of them, more exploratory hands on projects to understand the physics of human anatomy), but again, you could probably find them in other resources. The one with Bacteria and Fungi (kit 10) is really cool......you grown bacteria from household samples. If you don't have a couple petri dishes and agar samples hanging around your house, I would recommend purchasing this one. It is also great cuz the kids collect data over the course of a few days and it is totally GROSS to watch the bacteria grow. HTH Quote
Mom-ninja. Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I asked this same question to my fellow co-op moms. They told that they think the money for the kits is kind of a waste. One mom is done with the kits and she is going to give me everything she still has and then I'll just fill in what I'll need. I am also expecting another baby and don't want to run around having to find supplies. When I looked at their kits it really does look like most stuff is stuff I have already. I didn't order the kits so we'll see how it goes. Quote
