Truscifi
I am 38 weeks. I was helping dh with yard work today, and perhaps overexerted myself. Late this evening I noticed a little pink tinged discharge. I called the ob unit at the hospital where I will deliver, and the nurse said to do a 20 minute kick count, and if the baby was moving, not to worry about it. She actually said to do it twice to be sure he was moving, and call back if he wasn't. I did, and the first time he was a bit sluggish but did move 3 times in 22 minutes, so I drank some iced tea, and the second time he moved 5 times in 20 minutes. That is over what the nurse said to look for, but I am still feeling worried. Am I just being paranoid? I am still going to call my ob's office in the morning, but I feel like I should do something else tonight. Has anyone had experience with this? The nurse said it is not unusual this close to term to have a tiny bit of bleeding. I just don't know. Sorry this is so rambling. I'm stressing right now. Sara in AZ
Could it be your mucous plug? Or not enough blood for that? :grouphug: I hate unresolved worries. I hope everything is fine!
scrapbabe
Could it possibly be the mucus plug? A couple of days/weeks before the baby comes you lose the mucus plug and it comes out as pinkish discharge. I'm not sure what the plug is/does exactly but I know that it comes out not too long before labor begins.
wapiti
Typically, at that stage, a tiny bit of pink discharge would be from dilation, eta, yeah, probably a part part of mucus plug. Keep up with the kick counts, but unless there's actual bleeding, I would not be concerned. In fact, if it were me, I'd be looking forward to the big finale, LOL; but then, I rarely made it past 38w. 1bassoon
Well, I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv. It was just pink, not bright red, right? And that was all you noticed? And baby passed the kick count? Sounds like you're fine. But sometimes you have to listen to your instincts. :grouphug:
Truscifi
I didn't even think about the mucous plug. This is all new for me - ds8 was late and big, and I had GD, so he was induced. So no mucous plug, no dilation until I was already in the hospital, they even had to break my water. Ok, so maybe this is a good sign that I will have this baby without having to be induced! I think I'm just feeling paranoid because at my appt last Thursday I hadn't made any progress, so I was mentally preparing myself to go late and be induced again. Plus the yard work today - I tried to take it easy and took regular breaks, but it was very hot. Dh says I'm in charge of folding laundry tomorrow while he finishes the yard work. Soror
I'd vote for a bit of mucous plug as well and I wouldn't worry at all OR bet on impending labor.

I would rather think it is a sign of impending labor! I'm so ready to be done! :tongue_smilie: The OB office said the same as you ladies, so I am choosing to relax and not worry about it any more. Thanks for the support last night. :)
ktgrok
Um...that's a sign of your cervix dilating...bloody show. Totally normal at 38 weeks. Look forward to a baby soon :)
Soror
I do hope it means labor is soon for you, it just doesn't always mean that though, everyone is different! Good Luck!
