Jess4879
Perhaps it's because I didn't get enough sleep last night...but this seems overly complicated to me for some reason. http://simplycharlottemason.com/timesavers/memorysys/ Does anyone do a more simplified version? Does it work just as well? Three dividers would be nice...40+ is a bit much for me...
momto2blessings
I also thought it seemed too complicated at first and put it off, but kept hearing raves so gave it a try. I printed the directions out and sat w/my box and dividers in front of me. It's much simpler than it sounds at first glance:) I adapted a bit, since we don't do memory work every day. We use different colored cards, too, which is nice. White for Bible, since that's the majority. Blue for poetry, yellow for any history facts I think our important, etc. It really takes very little time once you get going! Hth some:) Gina
Marie131
It's really quite simple. I set mine up in just a few minutes, we started using it a few weeks ago and it is really effective. :)
ladydusk
I have three kids working through the same information, so I didn't want to make three boxes with the same poetry, verses, etc. Also, my children are young, so them spilling the whole box full of index cards is a disaster (ask me how I know!) So, I numbered the memory work (Poem #1, List #2, etc.), put it in a notebook and created a chart with the SCM system, and put it all in a notebook. With page protectors. For each "topic" (Bible, Hymns, Catechism, Poetry, etc) I put at least one of these charts. If it is something we all work on together (Bible) there is one chart. If it is something they work at their own pace (Catechism, Poetry), there are three charts - one per child. I don't know if it is easier, but HTH. a27mom
Instead of using the number of days in the month I just have Monday, Tuesday, wed...etc. so just 10 dividers. I just pile them up behind the days of the week.

Jess4879
Also, my children are young, so them spilling the whole box full of index cards is a disaster (ask me how I know!) This would totally happen in my house!
skeeterbug
I also use a notebook instead of a box, and I have a set of monthly dividers 1-31 for the daily review (bought those at an office supply store). And then daily, odd/even, and M-F. It felt awkward to begin with, but having those 1-31 dividers makes it really easy.
kolamum
It's very simple, but I set mine up a little differently. :)
Amy Jo
I saw a great way to simplify SCM's system - I can't find the link though. :( I will try to sum it up: Reduce the number of tabs to 4 by having "daily", "every other day", "weekly" and "review/monthly" tabs. Then (eventually) put 1 card behind daily, 2 behind every other day, 5 (or 7, if you review 7 days a week) behind weekly and the rest behind review. Everyday do the FIRST card behind each tab, then move it to the back of it's section. The great thing is it doesn't matter if you miss a day because it's just a loop that keeps repeating. Number the cards as you memorize them, then when you add a new card just move the oldest card in each section to the next section. It worked great other than my second son always did every single card, LOL. For another take on memory review try this one (I think this would work well if you want something like ANKI, but don't want to be on the computer. I'm considering this for Latin vocabulary): http://tolovehonorandvacuum.com/2010/01/works-for-me-wednesday-bible-memory/
kristinannie
Where did you find dividers with the days of the month? All I can find are dividers with letters on them. I can't even find blank ones. I wish SCM just sold one. I would pay a couple of bucks extra to have someone else do it for me!

I'm in Australia and I found them at our big office supply store here- Officeworks. Sorry, that doesn't help much, but maybe you can find them at one of the big stores there. ETA: But we use a binder, not an index card box. So the dividers I was referring to are binder dividers. Sorry, that really doesn't help much! kolamum
You don't need blank tabs, just turn them over. One side is often blank & one side isn't. ;)
