If you do a "light" day on Saturday.........

..........do you count it as a half-day, full-day, or something else?

We will be schooling 6 days a week most weeks, but Saturday will be lighter. But since we will still be doing something, I am thinking I will count it as a half-day. I am supposed to do a certain number of hours per year, but since I will be schooling year-round for the most part, I know I will have plenty of hours, so I decided to just keep attendance on a full-day/half-day basis.

I was curious how others handle it.

We school M - F with a pretty rigid schedule. Saturday is mostly drill work, projects, catch up, and "fun" stuff (art, music, etc). Typically just a couple of hours.

Our weekday school schedule is 5 hours. If we make it at least 2 hours on Saturday, I count it a 1/2 day. If we don't make it that long, I just figure it keeps them out of trouble for however long they were at their desk !!

Hope that helps!

The boys need to read 'x' amount of pages one day on the weekend but other than that we're off. I need the break :-)

Unless something comes up, in our house you must read something everyday. This usually means at night time. It usually works out to 15 minutes (or more). Youngest can read with help one story from Frog and Toad. Eldest reads almost a whole chapter of a book from the "Enchanted Forest" series.

We have to count days. I know what I expect out of a day and many days we fall a bit short, BUT if we have an appointment or a kid gets sick or something I definitely count it as only a half day. On the other hand, when it comes time to turn in the paperwork I fudge it...combine it with another half day, because I don't want any red flags to go up regarding half days. I don't know if it's exactly legal or even matters. I think ps half days here count as full days so my way is probably more legit than theirs! But it's more to keep me accountable anyhow.

We don't track days or hours, but we often do some school work and reading on Saturdays. We are not on a normal 5-day schedule, anyway (husband's work). One day is as good as another. We take our "off" days whenever my husband is available to share them with us, so it evens out. Today we did an hour of Math, about 30 minutes of Science reading, some History reading, and about 30 minutes of Chapter Book reading -- all spread out over the course of the day. I don't think we ever have a day when we don't at least read something on our school reading list. HTH.
