mylonestar5 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 In talking to a friend with children in public school, it sounded like the content of the Apologia Chemistry course (which my daughter is taking now) is the equivalent of a public school AP Chemistry course. Does anyone know for sure? ~Paula Quote
Hoggirl Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 that their child did both the Apologia Chemistry AND Apologia Advanced Chemistry and earned a "5" on the AP exam. I think you have to do both, however, but I have ZERO experience, so don't rely on me! Quote
Cedarmom Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I think you would have to do the second honors Chem. for it to be considered AP. My son did the regular Chem. course, a good course but not in-depth enough for AP. You could go on to the college board site and see what material is required for AP. Quote
Michelle in MO Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Dr. Wile suggests that a student complete both Chemistry and Advanced Chemistry in order for them to take the AP exam. It looks like also, from this webpage, that the student will need to have completed Algebra II before taking the Advanced Chemistry course. Here's the link to the website. HTH! Quote

II--but you would have to study logarithms and have a decent working knowledge of them. Quote
mylonestar5 Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 That makes sense. Thanks for all your input! ~Paula Quote
Cedarmom Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I just checked out the college board yesterday for AP physics. It was very helpful. You can do the same for Chemistry. You can download the actual course overview. I thought I would share, AP was one of the things that really intimadated me, But after looking at the sight, it is much easier to tell what the requirement are. Quote
mylonestar5 Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Ah!! Perfect! That's exactly what I needed to see! ~Paula Quote
MyThreeSons Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 the teacher used Apologia's Advanced Chemistry text along with an AP study text to be sure she covered everything. Quote
