lovetobehome
My son is groaning over doing IEW theme-based writing again. He really would like to do some creative writing. Do you have a suggestion for a curriculum that is fairly rigorous, for a 7th grader, and allows creative writing? THANKS!
Crimson Wife
Some materials I have been using for teaching creative writing to my DD who is an aspiring novelist: -NaNoWriMo middle school workbook (FREE) -Adventures in Fantasy (awesome resource but doesn't contain lesson plans). -The Plot Whisperer. I haven't seen the companion workbook but I'm seriously considering getting it for my DD. Not creative writing per se, but very helpful in improving my DD's sentence structure & variety has been the Killgallon series.

mom2boys030507
My son is going to do NaNoWriMo this year. But, he has also been using Creative Writer from Peace Hill Press. I am have been very impressed with this book and think it would challenge most people. Creative Writer 2 is going on sale this coming week too. It is intended to be a once a week program but has helped to fill my son's desire to do creative writing.

Are you referring to this? http://www.amazon.com/The-Creative-Writer-Finger-Exercises/dp/1933339551 I am curious... :bigear: DD loves to creative writing and has done NanoWriMo twice now, but we haven't done anything else, but now you all have my interest! :D
lovetobehome
Thanks, I added The Creative Writer to my Rainbow order. I appreciate the help! I also looked at the freebie, and it looks really fun, too.
Crimson Wife
Creative Writer 2 is going on sale this coming week too. It is intended to be a once a week program but has helped to fill my son's desire to do creative writing. This forum is so bad for my budget. I need another writing curriculum on my shelf like I need a hole in my head, but this is really tempting. :tongue_smilie: I really liked the poetry section of CW1.
