moonlight
I figure I would get more people to look at the thread if I wrote kilts, instead of kilns! I wanted to do some clay work with the kids this year..what are some of my options if we don't have a kiln or access to one. I saw that there is a way to make a kiln with a metal trash can, but I am not excited about that..any glazes that don't require firing? Can I put it in the oven?? Any ideas?? Thanks. Mrs Mungo
No, you cannot put it in an oven. Do you want to buy a kiln? Lots of people have the, (surprising, I know). Maybe put an ad in Craigslist? Don't you have any paint or your ceramics places near you? They would probably fire it for a small fee. justLisa
OK I read it when it said kilNs and I thought I misread.
Jpoy85
Sculpey is an option. It comes in MANY colors and you can mold it like clay and bake it in the oven. Its cheap and available at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.
moonlight
We do have a pottery place near us..will see if they will fire our stuff for us for a price. I am in the US for only 6 more days so I am thinking of quicker options of things to buy and take back with me to Abu Dhabi..I looked at kilns on Amazon and they look big and spendy! Will look at sculpey, but I wanted the kids to be able to paint and make bigger pieces. Don't know How expensive sculpey is?? And I've seen it before and thought it only came in small quantities.. Thanks!
wintermom
I have no idea, but I did look. Me too! What about air-dry clay and ditch the kilt/kiln?
moonlight
Do these other clays feel like regular clay though? Is it a similar sensory experience?
