momtolgd Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 We've been using Getty Dubay Italic handwriting. DS and I were talking about him starting cursive (he is anxious to learn it) so we were looking at the samples in the sonlight catalog of the different styles, and he said he really likes the more traditional cursive that I learned in school (slanted and some loops.) So which book do you recommend for cursive? I've looked around a bit and would like to know more about Cheerful Cursive, Cursive First, and Cursive Connection. Do you like any of these? Or can you recommend something different? Thanks. :001_smile: Quote
jenn&charles Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 When I was using traditional handwriting, I liked the workbooks from Zaner-Bloser. That is my fave handwriting "font" and the workbooks are pretty nice and fairly inexpensive (you don't need a teacher's manual). The site has some free samples you can take a look at. Sadly it didn't work out for my youngest, so I had to go back to Handwriting without Tears. Quote
momtolgd Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Thank you. I will take a look at that. Any other suggestions or thoughts? Quote
Jen500 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 We just started using Zaner-Bloser. I like the style because it looks similar to the style I learned growing up. My kids like the workbooks too. Quote
Amy+2 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Bought it from Rainbow Resource. We started with A Beka, but this past year switched to Cheerful Cursive. IMO, it is wonderful! :) Quote
5wolfcubs Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I used Cursive First with my ds last year. The product itself isn't flashy or professional but it did teach him to write in cursive. Just today I saw a cursive program in the new Memoria Press catalog called New American Cursive -- I like the looks of it. Quote
manylilblessings Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 My son really liked Cursive Connections. I liked how the book will lie flat side to side instead of top to bottom, and the progression of skills. We didn't do a page a day in the beginning though, because I wanted him to focus on quality, not speed. Quote
momtolgd Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Thank you for the suggestions...I'm going to look more into the ones you guys mentioned! :001_smile: Quote
