staceyobu
DH is looking at finishing his degree. There is a private university in our city that offers a business degree... but it's called a bachelor of applied science. It allows you to get 12 hours of credit for work experience. This is a "real" university. It's not a university of phoenix thing or anything like that. He would just end with a BAS degree instead of a BBA. We think it would shave a year off the time it would take him to finish. So, do you think it matters in getting future jobs? Or is it good enough to check "I have a bachelor's degree" box? JumpyTheFrog
What type of career does he want? I would assume that the more science/tech/engineering related the career, the more the specific degree would matter.

The short answer is it really depends. :) As someone who is part of a hiring team I would ask a few questions upfront: 1. What type of job/career is he looking to get into? 2. Does this help him work toward those long terms professional goals? 3. Specifically what type of accreditation does the school have? 4. Is he prepared to answer the 'what is that?' question in interviews? Or 'how did you pick that school/major?' These are just a few things to consider when achieving one's degree. This process is not only time consuming but can be expensive as well. I do think having a degree is important in many lines of work. But it really depends where one goes with it. For an auto machanic or truck driver it is far less important obviously than a civil engineer for example. redsquirrel
Well, I just asked DH who works in academia, (but is NOT an expert) and he believes it counts as a bachelor's degree. He is in management and sees many degree combos. He said he would assume the person had little to no fine arts in their course of study and had possibly done some internships to get their degree. He said to him, it wouldn't register much beyond 'this person has a bachelor's" Good luck to your husband in getting his degree!
