Tampa area people...Q's

Recommended Posts

We nearly moved the other week to Spring Hill. Right before, aunt was informed about certain regulations (we were going to move in with her temporarily). However, the neighbour did not just inform her of the regulations, she threatened to call the cops if we even showed up for a visit, because she "doesn't want that many people next door" to her. She lives in a HUGE neighbourhood with people on all sides. Her issue was with large families :glare:

So the question is: is there a general prejudice against large families in the Tampa area (I know they are "family friendly", but is that only for your average 2.5 kids)? Or is this just crazy, baby Jesus stealing, neighbour issue? (yeah, same neighbour stole my aunt's baby Jesus from her yard nativity this past Christmas)

I have no idea about your question...but I wouldn't make generalizations about an area based on one person. What were the regulations?

Anyways, good luck with your home search, I hope you find something. :grouphug:

Two people per bedroom is how many people per home is to be limited to. There is a logical reason for this. Apparently, the size of the septic tanks are put in based upon that assumption/figuring. This is what aunt was told and what we were told.

I'm not trying to make assumptions, but it did bring forward the question to ask. I know I got a lot of flack in the midwest for having a large family (at that time it was four to five children). Had one lady block my path at the grocery, you could watch her mentally count my kids and my pregnant belly, then she spat out (yes, literally spat), "Oh. My. G--!!!" and turned heel and walked away. Right in front of my children! In PA, large families are pretty normal. Either people have them or they came from a family where they were one of many. I would hate the idea of moving my family somewhere only to have to deal with this kind of prejudice again.

I lived there for years, and I think what you are running up against is the prejudice in some areas against some of the migrant workers that come in. They will sometimes have one family rent a house and 3-4 families will live there, working different shifts. And yes it is hard on the septic system.

This is a problem in some areas, but mostly I would say that it is a crazy neighbor issue. I live 45 minutes north of Spring Hill and have never been aware of that sort of prejudice. I will say there are not many families as large as yours around here though. Most are 5 or less.

I live in an apartment on an island south of Tampa. We have size limitations also, 2 per bedroom, because of water problems. But since is it a snow bird building, no one is there until the winter. If you move inland a few miles, there are no limitations that I am aware of.

Good luck finding a home. At least you dodged the hurricane.
