rgrin
My nearly 7-year-old finds it more convenient to not bother raising the seat. :ack2: I've reminded him that he can either raise the seat or sit to pee, but this behavior is not acceptable. I have him clean off the seat 5 times a day, yet he still persists! It is SO GROSS if you're in a hurry and don't check. :ack2::ack2::cursing: Any ideas? I'm desperate! redsquirrel
Make him clean it every time you find it wet. Even if you already sat down have him come in an wipe it down. Make it more trouble for him to not do it, and make it easier for him to do it the right way. My mom used to say "he who cleans the bathroom soon learns to improve his aim." amo_mea_filiis.
I agree with making it more work to not raise the seat. Not only does he now have to clean it (with whatever bathroom cleaner you use) but i would also make him go through the motions at random times (hey son, come here and show me the correct bathroom procedure). I would put up a sign about being neat. Maybe even require that he sit for a while. When ds was in one of his rare great moods, dd shared with him that it was gross how he peed with the seat down and pooped with the seat up (yes, he would sit on the rim), so for a week or so, she followed him every singe time he used the bathroom to make sure the seat was in the correct position. AK_Mom4
Along with having him clean it.... give him a reminder. Tape a sign up above the toilet that says "RAISE THE SEAT!" - right where he can't miss seeing it, so at his eye level. We had to do this for one of my kids and flushing. He needed a reminder RIGHT THEN (as well as having to come back after the fact if I found it wasn't flushed....) It didn't take too long to get the new habit in place, but the key was getting him a reminder at the right moment.
justLisa
We went through this. I found out DS is more OCD about touching the toilet then his dad. I told him to get a piece of toilet paper and open it, or ask me. I also wipe it down constantly because no one here will lift it if they have to fear what is under IYKWIM. KungFuPanda
Does everyone close the lid every time? If the lid is always closed, it's no more trouble to raise the lid and seat. If the girls are enjoying a trip to the bathroom with no extra steps, it might be hypocritical to pass judgement on a little boy who is doing the same thing. His aim is the real issue . . . not the seat. I'd concentrate on that. He needs to cleanly hit the target no matter where he puts the seat. I'm afraid I might resort to full bathroom wipe-down after every trip for a week. After that, tell him you'll "settle" for a lifted lid and rim wipe-down. You're gonna need a lot of wipes. :glare:

Plucky
Yep, have him clean it himself. That's what I did for my floor urinator (not a word is it?).
lisamarie
My DS did this once a month ago. I made him scrub both toilets every day for a week. He hasn't done it again. (He did it on purpose all over the seat and lid because he wanted to--his words)

Oh, and I'd have to write my name in the snow every year. That is one of the few things I envy about men.
milovany
If the girls are enjoying a trip to the bathroom with no extra steps, it might be hypocritical to pass judgement on a little boy who is doing the same thing. Oh, p'shaw. Boys get the fun (and convenience sometimes) of peeing standing up and they also don't have to wipe. They can lift the lid (or lids) to pee without a fuss. :tongue_smilie: I showed the attached photo at my Uppercase Living show the other night. (OP, sounds like you need "Lift the other one, too!" for your toilet lid!) somo_chickenlady
If you come up with a way, please let me know. My DS is 13, and he still can't remember to lift the seat when he pees. We have tried everything to get him to stop, but he continues to do it. He is scatterbrained on everything, so it isn't just this issue he forgets about constantly. I have taken to leaving a container of baby wipes on the back of the toilet, and on the rare occasion I have to use his bathroom I make sure to wipe the seat down before I sit. rgrin
I don't know whether to laugh or start throwing things. I just had to have him clean off the seat again. As he left, he said, "This time, raise the seat when you're done.":glare::lol::banghead::banghead:
Unicorn.
Since the cleaning isn't working, have him come back and sit on the wet seat a few times. Maybe that will make an impression!
