Haiku
I know that there are a lot of abbreviations for curriculum names used on this board. I understand why. No one wants to type Getting Started with Latin seven times in their post. But ... I read a lot of threads where the actual name of the curriculum is never mentioned, only the abbreviation. I know there is a place on the website where all the abbreviations are explained, but I'm not going to go and look at the list every time I don't know the abbreviation. (I would imagine others aren't, either.) Also, I recently read a thread where two people were using the same abbreviation for different curricula; they weren't even talking about the same curriculum but it took them several back-and-forth posts to figure that out. Can we all use the actual name of the curriculum the first time it's used in the thread and THEN jump to using the abbreviation? Please? :coolgleamA: Tara
kRenee
Good suggestion.
Rhondabee
But, honestly, (and I was once a new person myself!) it's so much easier for the new people to learn the abbreviations than for *everyone* to type out everything. Besides, how else will you learn what you like and what you don't if you're not googling every curriculum mentioned that's new to you? Dodging tomatoes~ Rhonda
scrappyhappymama
I love this idea. No one's saying don't use abbreviations at all, just use the real name once first, and then abbreviate. It would make it so much easier for those of us learning about all the new curriculum ideas!
Alison in KY
Great idea, please everyone join in and do this... Alison in KY
Haiku
it's so much easier for the new people to learn the abbreviations than for *everyone* to type out everything. Everyone doesn't have to type out everything. Everyone just needs to type the name of the curriculum the first time they mention it in the thread. :) Tara
StephanieF
That would help me sooooooo much! Stephanie
Perry
I agree. It also makes it easier to use the search function if you are looking for a specific curriculum, because there are variations on abbreviations.
khope1
I agree as well. I am relatively new to homeschooling and some threads I cant even read since it would take me forever to look up all of the abbreviations. Kimmi
SoCal Sandra
I don't need anymore mystery in my life.
Jenny in Atl
Just in case someone does forget to spell out what the mystery curriculum is... there is a great sticky at the top of the k-8 page, that should have most all the abbreviations used on the board. I know I have gone there often.
mrsdrcook
I agree as well. I am relatively new to homeschooling and some threads I cant even read since it would take me forever to look up all of the abbreviations. Kimmi Agree. I have limited time for looking up curriculum and corresponding on message boards.
Targhee
Writing out the full name once at its first mention in a thread should be sufficient (and not be too much extra typing for the author of the post). I'd be happy to do it, and I hope others will too. :)
Mom to Aly
Wonderful! I have no idea what many are talking about, and didn't know there was a place to find out what the abbreviations were, so I've skipped a lot of curricula I could have overbought! Mom to 3 Island Boys
I'm so glad someone else said this. I still run into abbreviations that I have to look up, but figured it was just my problem. Thanks for being bolder than I and suggesting it!
TN Mama
Before I found the abbreviation sticky (and the other day when something wasn't in there), I googled the abbreviation and added homeschool to the search and it brought up the curriculum that had been discussed. Hope that is helpful. :)
Chris in SC
I have been reading this board for a year and still run into lots of abbreviations I don't know/remember and often don't have time to look up! Chris
sadiegirl
Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Just typing it 1 time will help someone like me that has a computer that doesn't always cooperate on speed and all so I lose my page often....and that happens to be just about the time I get to the abbreviation page!!! Something greatly appreciated to those of us new to abbreviations and for those of us that spend any time on the computer...takes seconds to type!!
