Miss Cornelia Snook
I just became the proud owner of a new top-load, non-HE Speed Queen washing machine. Which is the best type of detergent? I love Tide, though it's pricier. I have two big bottles of HE liquid Tide and one box of HE powdered Tide to return to Costco. Wondering if powder or liquid will work better in my new baby. Ellie
Amway laundry products. Economical, efficient, environmentally sound. you should be able to find an Independent Business Owner (IBO) in your community. :)
Kathleen in VA
I make my own and use it in my Speed Queen with excellent results: 1 cup Washing Soda (Arm and Hammer) 1 cup borax 1 cup Purex crystals (pick your favorite scent) 1 bar of Fels Naptha, grated and then chopped in my food processor. Mix ingredients well. Use 1 or 2 tablespoons depending on size of load.
Faith
When I worked at a B & B, we used the HE Tide in the regular washers. Much less amount then recommended on the box and everything still came out very clean.
Miss Cornelia Snook
Oh, I'd never thought of Amway. But I have heard of making my own detergent, so I may try that one day. Thanks!

My recipe is similar to the one above, but I use oxyclean instead of the crystals and Octagon soap instead of Fells Naptha.
Ellie
Oh, I'd never thought of Amway. But I have heard of making my own detergent, so I may try that one day. Thanks! Mr. Ellie has delicate skin, bless his heart, and itches terribly if I use anything except Amway products, so making my own detergent has never, ever been an option. However, I've been using Amway laundry products for over 35 years, and would never dream of using anything else, anyway. :)
Thia
I think one of the points of these wonderful machines is that you can use what you want.
Shellers
I make my own and use it in my Speed Queen with excellent results: 1 cup Washing Soda (Arm and Hammer) 1 cup borax 1 cup Purex crystals (pick your favorite scent) 1 bar of Fels Naptha, grated and then chopped in my food processor. I had been using tide liquid up until a few weeks ago when I decided to try making my own. My recipe is very similar to the one above but I didn't add the Purex crystals. The stuff works and is cheap! I've been using distilled vinegar for fabric softener, and it really does make everything feel soft without the vinegar smell.
