Does anyone have any ideas for a simple timeline? I'd like to start one with my 2nd grader next year. I don't think I want a wall timeline. But something simple, just to give him a visual of important events and people.

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone.

timeline by knowledge quest. It is visually stunning. It is a "a work of art"...well, to our family that is! My kids love their timeline. I think a 2nd grader would love to create a picture (pictures) of history.

Sorry no other advise. BTW, my kiddos are 10,8,7 and 4.

Good luck!

I use Hannah's figures and add a couple more. We did our timeline in a book format this year--super cheap and easy. Take the big construction paper, turn it sideways, draw a line going across it, about halfway up the page. For SOTW 2, I number each page for 100 years. Punch 3 holes in the short side of the pages, and bind with metal rings. Pages can be taken apart and timeline can be laid out on the floor anytime. It is kinda neat to see it that way! BTW, dd is in 2nd grade. It was perfect for her.

Here's a picture of our timeline. We made our cover just with yahoo images pictures. We sometimes include yahoo images pic inside, but also use Hannah's.

Timeline.

We've always used notebook timelines. They've changed the website some, but here's a general idea.

My two children each have their own notebook. I used heavyweight colored paper for the pages, 100 years on each two page spread. I even used different colored pages for each volume of SOTW, lol.

My dd began using her timeline in 2nd grade, using figures from the SOTW AG. She just finished 7th grade, and she's continued to update her timeline, adding in figures as she studies.

To maintain perspective, I stuck to the 100 years spread on every two pages. Of course, in the Ancients, figures are few and far between. As we moved into the 17th Century, the pages began getting crowded. I added extra pages in between, BUT I cut them down at the top so that the original date would show.

It's been a great visual. I could never have a timeline up in my house, and I like the neatness of the notebook.

I put mine on file folders, taped together accordion style. (I just did the period we're studying, so it wasn't too bulky). I bought the WinterPromise figures for $10. They're already colored and dated so it's like falling off a log to finish the timeline.
