Michelle My Bell
I am trying to decide if the TM would be valuable to us for Horizon's Math, specifically grade 2. I have no doubt I could figure out the correct answers, but is there more that would benefit me? Thanks! Michelle
Jane Elliot
We've used Horizons for ten years now and have only ever needed the TM for the answers.
abbeyej
I've used Horizons k-6 and have never used the TMs. I do think having the answers would have saved me time from 4th or 5th grade on up though. ;) I did realize at one point, that if I'd been using the TM, I would have been drilling my child on skip counting as soon as it was introduced in the workbooks, but that was easy to add in when I realized he was expected to know it. (I added it sooner with my second child.) Otherwise, if you're comfortable teaching math, I don't think you'll have a problem without them. Trivium Academy
I think it depends on how you want to teach math and your strengths. I get the box set of Horizons Math so I get the TM. I appreciate having more worksheets for more practice and the instructions on how to teach a concept at times, other times I don't even glance in the TM. I went from being 100% dependent on it to just using it occasionally but will still buy the box set. We've used Horizons 1 and Horizons 2 Math, and I have Horizons 3. angela in ohio
I have used Horizons K-3. I think it is crucial. All of the instruction and the drill are in the teacher's manual, especially for the first few grades. Without the teacher manual, you basically have a math practice workbook like you can get at Barnes & Noble or the teacher supply store (and probably cheaper.) Julie in Austin
I've used it for years and with two kids and never used the TM for anything except checking answers. http://www.cbd.com and http://www.sonlight.com have lots of sample pages if you want more info. Guest TamaraKay
I have used Horizon's K & 1, I have always made use of the teacher's manuals, not for checking any answers, but for the drills and extra worksheets, I think it's quite valuable. We will be using Horizon's 2 this year, and I have ordered the boxed set.
Michelle My Bell
Thanks everyone, I appreciate your feedback. I think I like the idea of having the extra drills and teaching notes laid out for me so that I give a solid foundation without having to come up with it all on my own. I will go ahead and get the TM. God Bless, Michelle
MerryAtHope
I bought it for level 2 but didn't end up using it much, I teach my kids or show examples as they need them. I use them in levels 4-6 whenever it's faster to get up & go get the answers than to figure them out on my own, LOL! Before level 4, it was always faster to just figure them out. We really enjoy Horizons here! Merry :-)
