MJN Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 actually started in his office so he was able to get an EKG. He did an ultrasound and put her on the treadmill. She passed both of those. He did the holter monitor for 24 hours. It showed one period of palpitations. Both that he was able to get were when she was doing nothing, but was getting hungry. He believes its Reactive Hypoglycemia. We'll try doing six mini meals a day and see if that stops it. If not, we'll try meds. Thanks for praying for wisdom about this. We're relieved to have a diagnosis that we can live with. Quote
newbie Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I am so happy it is something you can control through diet. That must be a load off your shoulders. Blessings, Jet Quote
muffinmom Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Don't know if this will help, but my new doctor has been having me take B vitamins for reactive hypoglycemia. For about a month now, my blood sugar has been more stable than it has ever been. I take Pantothenic Acid, Niacinamide (I think these are the most impt. ones) and I also take B-complex drops. All of this twice a day. I can give you mgs if you're interested. I've dealt with it my whole life--sure wish I'd known about the Bs a long time ago. Hope she feels better soon! As a side note, I also had palpitations in high school and they did an echo-cardiogram and found that I have mitral valve prolapse. Wondered if they checked that out. Quote
Mom to Aly Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Wow, I've had reactive hypoglycemia that was not diagnosed until I was an adult, and they never offered me meds. I just had to watch, and when I felt like my sugar was low eat, an apple was very good for long sustenance if my sugar had not yet gotten low. I now have diabetes, and my sugar drops very suddenly, which is unusual, but they think it is because of that. I recently found out I am low in B6 I think it was, and am taking a B complex (I have always been a vegetarian, and it is common with that, but, again, no one ever told me), and it has gotten much better with that. BTW, the diabetes has nothing to do with the reactive hypoglycemia, so you know. Good luck with it. Do keep a candy bar or something with sugar with you at all times for your dd. Quote
