Mommy22alyns Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 If you have felt the need to brush up on your grammar skills as an adult, what have you used? I'm self-teaching Latin with Henle 1, and I also bought English Grammar for Students of Latin (on PlaidDad's recommendations) and Lingua Latina for a fun supplement. Is this going to teach me enough grammar, or should I get something just for English grammar? What would you suggest? You can see by my siggy that my girls are still very young, so I don't need to worry about keeping ahead of them... yet. :001_huh: Quote
homeschoolmomof6 Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Rod and Staff is my favorite grammar, but for an adult to brush up I'd use Easy Grammar Plus. It's cheap, easy to understand and the lessons are very short. Blessings, Amanda Quote
Grace is Sufficient Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I'm going through Rod & Staff 7 myself, and plan to do R&S 8 when I finish. I'm a writer and want a thorough knowledge of grammar though, so that may be overkill for you. I can say that R&S definitely goes deeper than Easy Grammar, however, having used both with my kids. Beth in SW WA Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I'm going through R & S Grammar 6 w/ my kiddos starting in the Fall. Sad, I know. I couldn't diagram a sentence today if my life depended on it. Talk to me in a year... :) Let us know what you decide. Quote
Michelle in MO Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I'm working through Abeka's grammar on my own; I bought G&C III and G&C IV for myself! I bought Abeka primarily because my kids worked through their grammar series and I'm familiar with it. R&S is also excellent. Quote
Crissy Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I'll chime in with further support for Rod and Staff. It is a fabulous program. Quote
Kathleen in VA Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I am a copy editor and proofreader and I still have grammar questions. I have seriously considered buying Analytical Grammar just to brush up and make sure I have covered all the bases. AG is a comprehensive course intended to be completed in one year. Rod and Staff, A Beka, and others like them are designed to be used several years in a row and to build off of previous knowledge. As an adult, I would prefer a course that is designed to be intensive and comprehensive and able to be completed in one year (or less, depending on how much you already know). www.analyticalgrammar.com Quote
