MamaCoop04
We're vacationing near Charlottesville, Va and heading back home to Central Pa using either I-81 or US 15. Wondering if anyone has suggestions on where to stop off on the way home for something fun to do, we'd even spend the night if we have to. My kids ages are 1, 3, 5, 6 & 11. Not really interested in going to Presidents homes or wineries, maybe when the kids are older. We've been to the Safari in National Bridge and a children's museum in Winchester, Va. I did see that Harrisonburg has a fun looking kids museum, Explore More. I'm sure there's got to be more out there! Any suggestions appreciated!!! KungFuPanda
Exit 222. Mrs. Rowes. Get PIE. This place is pie Mecca and the reason I'm an active member of Pie Club. (Yes, we made it up. We have a song and everything.)
Farrar
KungFuPanda suggested the pie to us... and we couldn't stop. :( We all wanted to cry! Pie! Pie! Next time though... We did Natural Bridge and Foamhenge, but we were headed farther south. There are other caverns you can stop at along the way. Also, the Route 11 Potato Chip Factory, which is not a long stop, but is totally awesome. Oh, and someone suggested the Frontier living history museum or whatever it's called and that sounded cool, but we haven't done it yet. jackson'smama
if you take I-64 out of CVille to I-81 and head north... I'd stop at Luray Caverns. In addition to the caverns, there is a car museum (my kids love it even though it's full of antique cars and carriages), a garden maze, a valley history museum that covers Native American thru early Valley settlers (house, barn, church, museum, mining sleuce where the kids can "pan" for gemstones), and a ropes course for children and adults. Restaurant onsite as well as plenty of picnicing areas. ETA: you can do this and STILL stop for pie on the way :)
TravelingChris
Luray Caverns was very nice and another one I can recommend in the Frontier Museum in Staunton.
