BamaTanya Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I've enjoyed the Dr. Grip I've used for the past several years, but now the grip is splitting and I'm torn. Do I *really* want a nice pen? Something that will upset me if it grows legs and gets away? I say this because someone in my class Monday night said, "Hey, Tanya, let me see your pen," when the class sign-up sheet was going around. That pen (not a special one) didn't make it back to my book bag. Sigh. I mean, if you use a Special Pen and someone reaches for it (maybe accidentally?), do you tell them "no"? Wouldn't it be better if you had a drawer/purse full of 88c pens? Tossables? Especially when you have 5 kiddos who are constantly rearranging your stuff? I deserve a nice pen. Really I do. I'd like to reward myself. Right now I'm drooling over the Fisher Bullet with a lacquered fuschia finish. Should I buy one? Should I keep it locked in my desk drawer or carry it in my pocket for everyday use? What's your special pen and how do you guard it? Quote
Debbie in OR Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Bic fine point. That's it. Nothing fancy but everyone in my family knows better than to touch them. They're mine, I say, all mine.... Quote
Ellie Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 A fountain pen (one that uses cartridges is just fine--it doesn't have to be a "real" fountain pen), with a medium nib. My second choice is a medium point gel pen, because it writes and looks like a fountain pen, and I can use enough pressure when there are multiple copies, which doesn't happen very often nowadays, but the OCD in my requires me to be ready, lol. My 6th grade teacher in Corpus Christi required us to use fountain pen--not ballpoint, certainly not pencil-for everything except math. I have preferred fountain pens ever since. Thanks, Mrs. Tucker :-) Quote
newbie Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I like anything with a grip. All pen and pencils I use at home are tossables. But back in the day, when I was working in banks, I had a Mont Blanc obsession. I had about 10 and since they were so valuable, I never kept my eye off of them. The customers would get so mad, because I wouldnt let them use my pen. I never lost or misplaced any of them. Now they are hidden in the closet. Hmmm, would make great grad gift for dd's. Jet Quote
kat19 Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I'm not a pen snob, but I do like these best.. Pentel R.S.V.P ink pens fine point Quote
ticklbee Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Anything I can find and that writes! :tongue_smilie: Quote
Tracey in TX Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I use anything which writes easily (Bic doesn't pass the test). DH only uses Mont Blanc. Perks of being a professional vs. SAHM. :D Once in awhile I'll borrow it. It's like writing with a cloud, smooth and seamless. Quote
E_Edgerton Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Zebra pens by Pilot. There is just something about the weight of them...they are also not gimmicky. Quote
cin Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Uniball retractable. It HAS to be retractable because the lids all disappear. :glare: Quote
3littlekeets Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I've always used Cross b/c they are nice and not very spendy, but I think I just found one I love, thanks to this thread. http://www.penboutiqueonweb.com/acatalog/Albert_Einstein.html When my house is paid off, I've put my kids through college, saved for my retirement, and fed the population of the Appalacian Mountains, maybe I can afford the 4,999.00 price tag and not feel to bad doing so:w00t::blink::ack2: Quote
keptwoman Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I like fountain pens. DH bought me a beautiful italian nibbed with a Greek glass handle for my birthday with italian sepia ink :001_wub: It's not terribly portable though, so for portablility a fine nibbed cartridge fountain pen. Quote
Guest Katia Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I use a Parker pen. I love the way it feels in my hand and the way it writes. I think it's a medium ball-point. Dh likes his Cross. And, yes, I guard 'my' pen. When someone asks to use my pen I smile and say, "Not this pen, sorry. It's my favorite. Let me see if I have another one here......." They usually turn away and ask someone else. No harm done and I still have my pen. Quote
Claire in NM Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 When these first came out, I just fell in love with them. The ink comes out nice and smooth. I first tried the extra fine, but it was a bit too fine for me. I use the fine point. Claire in NM Quote

I couldn't write with that! I'd have to put it into a safety deposit box! Quote
mommylawyer Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Uniball Vision Exact Micro in blue. Has a grip. It's narrow (I find chunky pens difficult to write with). It has a teeny tiny point (I don't like wide strokes). And I prefer blue because I don't sign anything in black for fear that you won't be able to tell whether or not it's my original signature. Suzanne in ABQ Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Yup, yup, yup. Pilot G2 Gel Pens are the best! I buy them in 12 packs from Sam's club. The only thing I don't like is that the ink takes a little longer to dry, especially on shiny surfaces. But, I love the way they write! Quote
mktkcb Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Ditto here on the G2s....my dh began using these a couple years ago, and I found myself stealing them. He likes the 05's, and I like the 07's, so now we can tell them apart. The write nice and smooth. They have a mini version in different colors that go nicely in my purse, and Costco et al sell them in bulk. They're greeeeaaaaat (think Tony the Tiger :o) )! Quote
Frontier Mom Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 What's your special pen and how do you guard it? I do like the Dr. Grip. I like them so much that I have three sets: pink gel & pink .5 pencil, purple blue ballpoint with .7 pencil, and blue black-ink point with .5 pencil. Crazy, isn't it? I dare anyone to touch them.:boxing_smiley: Right now I am using, and loving, the Bic Duo. The ink dries fast and it has a nifty highlighter than comes out with a turn. I'm just a sucker for a new gadget. I also really love my Pilot G-2 Pro. Good pens, and office supplies in general, are my weakness. And, I'm really stingy with them. We often laugh because I declare my dh and I would have never married if we had gone to the same high school or college. I am one that is very particular about my pens and he is the type who either didn't have one at all and asked the person beside him for one, never returned a pen, and chewed on the ends.:tongue_smilie: I mean, that is just sick. So yes, go for the pen. Then, do what I do and carry around cheapies for people like my dh. Quote
6packofun Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I like the Dr. Grip retractable ballpoint. 2 others I like, but not as well, are PaperMate Profile retractable ballpoint and the PaperMate FlexGrip Elite retractable. I want to try the TUL retractable ballpoint, too...can ya tell I like retractable ballpoints??? We use a ton of the basic black Bic Round Stic Grip pens, too. Quote
Tap Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Pilot G2 for my purse (green or purple right now) . Pentel RSVP for school (always blue or another bright color). Bic fine point at work because we are required to write in red and the pens walk away too fast to buy good ones. And to Frontiermom....I can't stand pen chewers either! If I pick up a pen that has been chewed on it feels like I just picked up someones used chewing gum. I have a co worker who is a pen chewer and when ever I find a community pen that has been chewed on, I taunt her until she confesses :D to her dastardly dead! Quote
