MamaBearTeacher
Google said it was Julia Child's 100th birthday today. She died in 2004. Do we celebrate someone's age if they are dead? If someone only lived 92 years, it just seems odd to say that it is their 100th birthday. My nitpicky question of the year. I am not usually nitpicky. Kathryn
I say it "would be her 100th birthday" or "it's the 100th anniversary of her birth," but I think they're just trying to get a point across without being wordy.
lmrich
I think you can celebrate what would have been her 100th birthday. I had an aunt who still celebrated her anniversary even though her husband was dead. She beleived that they were still married, just separated by her earthly ties... sweet but a little weird when she had a 50th wedding anniversary and invited everyone for a big party. newlifemom
She shares her birthday with my Gma, who is living and 100 today. :D
Night Elf
Google Doodle celebrates all kinds of things. I'm not sure what the criteria for choosing who/what to celebrate. I know they did Mark Twain's birthday (I looked it up and last November it was his 176th birthay), and I remember the Pac-man doodle. I guess whoever does the Doodles really liked Julia Child! DianeW88
Sure, why not??? It would be a great excuse to make some fabulous French food!
TravelingChris
My dd has a birthday today and I remember when she had her 9th birthday and Julia had her 90th birthday. She was really happy they shared a birthday since she loved to watch her shows.
Kathleen in VA
I see it all the time. Mt. Vernon celebrates George Washington's birthday. I've also heard of folks celebrating Jane Austen's birthday, Beethoven's birthday, and many others. Doesn't seem odd to me at all. I'm with Diane - a great reason to enjoy a French meal!
