Hi all,

Does Jacobs Algebra give answers to problems worked out? In other words are the solutions worked out or just the answers? If they are just the answers anyone ever get stumped on how the solution was found? If Jacobs is this way I'm really hesitant in purchasing it, just wanted some opinions on this - thanks!

Yes, just answers, No solutions. I'm NOT a "mathy" person, but I had no troubles as instructor/answer checker without any solutions. : ) We just finished up Jacobs Geometry -- very proof oriented; fortunately, the proofs ARE all there as part of the answer. (whew!) ; ) We really enjoyed Jacobs!

If your dc ever got a problem wrong, was it hard to figure out the correct solution?? Right now dc is finishing up SM 6B along with SM Challenging Word Problems 6. CWP only contains answers and some of them have us stumped. I end up spending a great deal of time trying to figure these out... Just didn't want the same thing to happen w/Jacobs! (I don't really have the time to figure it out!) thanks so much.

CWP are tough sometimes, you see people posting questions about specific problems here all the time. You could always post a problem here and ask for help. I think Jacob's website might have help too? It has lots of extras for geometry.

SS -- prior to Jacobs, we used the first half of NEM1. Now THAT stumped us at times, for up to half an hour, with "mathy" son and I wrestling the problem out on the whiteboard until something I bumbled into would spark the "aha" for DH, who would then get how to solve the problem -- and then explain it to me! (lol) Jacobs Algebra was NOTHING like that. I can only remember maybe 2-3 problems in the ENTIRE course that ever stumped us -- and by looking at the answer, we could usually solve the problem in less than 5 minutes. Jacobs is so gentle and incremental, and I never felt that any of the problems were really very tough. Just our experience! Warmly, Lori D.

Thank you for your help! I feel more comfortable using Jacobs. I tried to find it at our local homeschool fair, but couldn't find a copy... Oh well...

Thanks again!
