TXBeth
At what age would you let your DC watch it? DD is currently reading the Christian Heroes: Then and Now book about Eric Liddell, and I'm wondering if it would be good to let her watch the movie with me when she is done. I have never seen it. I have read reviews, and I don't see anything really inappropriate, but I'm mostly wondering whether it would be boring for a 7 year old who enjoyed the book. TravelingChris
No, it is a fine movie and if she liked the book, she will like the movie too, I would think.
milovany
I think there's one scene with another runner and his girlfriend -- nothing racy, but maybe an implication? It's been several years since I've seen it, so I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Other than that (if it even exists), it's a great movie. I'd show it to all my kids. Laura Corin
We watched it recently with both my boys. I would wait until at least ten or twelve, not because it's scary or disturbing, but just because it might be hard to understand all the themes. Liddell's issues are stated quite plainly in the script but at least half of the film is about Abrahams, and the script here is more allusive: you have to be able to pick up that when he is being excluded or denigrated as 'not one of us' it's because of his Jewishness. Hobbes also had a problem working out who was who and remembering their backstories, because there are lots of young male characters. A point of minor interest: the opening running scene, which was spoofed in the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, was filmed at West Sands in St Andrews, which is our nearest beach. Hoot
DS13 and I recently watched it. I think content-wise it would be fine for your DS; however, my DS and I both found it mind numbingly dull. If your DS liked the book, I guess maybe he will like the movie. My DS is very into sports, likes older movies and prefers non-fiction to fiction; however, he found this one to be very ho hum and boring. As one other poster mentioned, it can be hard to keep the characters straight because there are so many extraneous people.

The kids were so bored; they went to bed rather than finish watching it. My husband and I watched to the end of it but I don't remember being impressed by it at all. I do remember wondering why the movie was so highly acclaimed. There was really little about Liddell's life other than the Olympics. Nothing inappropriate, though. Rebecca VA
There's really nothing inappropriate, at least nothing that a seven-year-old would pick up on. You'll likely have to do a lot of explaining of what's happening. It's probable she'll just take away bits and pieces -- like the beautiful music, the way the college campus looked, the old-fashioned Olympics, the scene on the Scottish hillside with the Westie dogs, and so on. But that's OK -- it will flesh out the story for her. She already knows the real storyline. P.S. I thought Lord Andrew Lindsay in the movie was so cute that I named my daughter after him (with the spelling changed). Monica_in_Switzerland
I like this movie, but have to be in the mood to watch it and stay awake and keep focused. It is not a very whiz-bang kind of movie, but the actual running scenes are pretty moving. Like a PP mentioned, much of the movie is about Abrahams and his struggles being accepted despite being Jewish.
mrsrevmeg
This is my husband's favorite movie so my kids have seen it all their lives. I think that most of it would be kind of boring to a seven year old. (my kids never watched it all in sitting until the tween years) She would probably like the costumes in it.
