Rebecca
Local honey that tastes bitter... should I be concerned? I just put it in the crockpot as an ingredient in a meatball recipe.
Flowing Brook
Where did it come from? The only time honey spoils is when it has too much water in it. Is it possible that whoever extracted it used equipment that was not clean or had some sort of residue that made the honey taste bad? I keep bees myself and have never heard of it tasting bitter. It is best to know where your honey is being extracted at. I have seen some honey houses that really made my stomach turn. ugh.
Rebecca
It is local honey that we bought a year ago or so. The bottle says Wildflower honey. I have no idea if the place is yuck or not. Online said certain pollen can cause honey to taste bitter... I just wanted to know if it was dangerous to eat it?? Thx.
Flowing Brook
It could be from the plants that the bees harvested from. If it was prepared by a reputable company that has been inspected by a health inspector than I would not hesitate to eat it. However if it is from some road side stand that some hobbyist did in their spare time. I'd be a little more Leary.
Lara in Colo
I recently learned that almonds tree flowers make the honey bitter.
