Scout Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008  I am really thinking WAY ahead here.... but I am trying to put a plan into place.... my dd (about to start 7th grade) is very squeamish. She is not especially interested in science to begin with, but I might like her to have biology in HS. (Our state requires two years of science for graduation-- one must be biology and while I realize that I don't have to necessarily follow those guidelines, I am interested in trying to figure out how I might do so.) I have the Lyrical Life Science CDs, but I don't have the texts or workbooks. If I were to get them, would they be appropriate as a 9th or 10th grade biology course? What else might we add to make the course complete? Thanks. Quote
Michelle in MO Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 CD's and workbooks, but I'll have to be honest with you---I don't think Lyrical Life Science would be nearly rigorous enough for high school. I tend to think of it as more of a supplement for the grammar and possibly logic stage years. If she's squeamish about dissections (biology) there are some here who do virtual dissections. If you do a Google search for "Virtual Dissection of Frog" or "Virtual Dissection of Worm", you can find some excellent websites which can essentially deliver the same information without the "ick" factor. There are a number of high school textbooks that are very well written; we've used Apologia; others have used BJU or Prentice Hall. Good luck with your science search. Quote
HollyinNNV Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I have to agree with the other posters. LL is not appropriate for high school. I used them for elementary school age children. We are going to use Prentice Hall Biology for 9th grade. Sorry, Holly in N NV Quote
Scout Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 Thanks for the suggestions. I'm glad to hear it. We will just play the cds in the car and look for something else. lol. That's why I asked. I just wasn't sure what all comes in the texts/workbooks, but doesn't sound like enough. Maybe we will just build a biology class around botany, genetics, taxonomy etc. and skip dissecting.... or maybe we will study rocks instead. Who knows. :tongue_smilie: Quote
