can I combine SL LA and WTM LA all the way through?

I have plans to begin WWE1 and FLL1&2 with Sonlight's LA 2 this year... I had been looking at doing this last year but didn't... but I think it is most definitely doable this year and at least for the next 3 years. BUT from my classical language arts friends, is it doable from your point of view... i.e. I am not as familiar with TWTM way in later years.

- the plan is to follow WWE scheduling from days 1-4 and then add in throughout the week and at the very least, just on fridays some creative writing b/c my daughter craves this but needs the WWE structure....

I would appreciate any tips on trying to combine the two... b/c i plan to use SL as my core all the way through... but also using the SOTW series now and throughout the next 4 years, too...

That is what I did last year, SL LA, FLL and WWE. It worked well for the most part I just added in a couple boxes at the bottom of the SL LA and wrote in what we did with FLL and WWE and cut out SL copywork, and in spots of FLL I skipped a few lessons if my ds knew it pretty well :)

did you do most of SL's activities/writing assignments or did you skip some/a lot of that too?

do you see this continuing to be possible once SL's LA is more connected with it's history and when FLL and WWE move on too?

in fact, still trying to figure out what they move on to.

You could do both, but I would not recommend it.

As a former editor/proofreader I do not have a high opinion of Sonlight's grammar and writing instruction. (I have vivid memories of finding the homonym day after day after day. Ugh.)

SWB's resources are far better, and more than adequate for the task without combining with other curricula.

I would recommend doing the Sonlight core (reading, history, Bible) and purchasing your own grammar, spelling, and writing resources separately.

I have done some serious thinking and evaluating of what needs to happen today.

It is really hard for me but I think I'm going to cut out my plans with SL's LA, at least for now. Until the LA is included in the cores (and then I will add touches of it in)

But for now, I think I will just put all our eggs in the SWB writing basket :) it feels good to make this decision.

And if I see that my daughter needs some creative writing time (i.e. she likes it when I give her creative starters to run with) then I will schedule that in once a week. :)

Good move, IMO. I used SL's LA twice and each time I wasn't impressed. Not worth the hassle of working it in. (I always feel so mean saying that, but I think it's true.)

Because SL has been my first love and my core for, read-alouds, history, science, It has been hard to not be pulled to keep it all under one roof...

I'm a purist. :)

But i'm just going to be a All about learning press & Peace Hill press purist too when it comes to LA :)

one more question, when it comes to WWE - do some condense it, speed it up or skip certain weeks at times when their children are either starting late in it or finding it monotonous at times?

I will be starting WWE1 in a few weeks but really could have started it last year. my daughter will be 7 in November and had her "1stgrade" year last year.

We did WWE1 last year at a double pace. It is very easy to speed up since every other day is copy work and listening to a passage/answering questions.
