As the children get older....

Recommended Posts

do you miss homeschooling young ones?

My eldest ds is entering the middle school years, so the academic expectations and rigor have ramped up. Piano has become more rigorous as he gets older, the other boys have added their musical instruments, their sport has become more involved as they all get older, and I'm outsourcing a couple subjects, so the hours have become filled. I am so looking forward to having a middle schooler to teach again, as I thoroughly enjoy this age and stage, and I do enjoy that my younger boys are more independent.

BUT, I was looking for a link on my old blog, and I scrolled through pages of projects and fun activities that we simply don't have time to do any more. The days when we'd take a whole day to do art projects, and all of the nature days when we'd just drop school for the day and go explore, or the time we made our own "I Spy" pictures, or the whole color unit we did for science. Or the days when the little ones couldn't read, so we'd spend the afternoon on the couch reading picture books.

Sigh....I think I'm feeling just a little nostalgic today. *sniff*

You're not the only one. My youngest will be a junior this year. Lately, when I look at old photos of the kids, I get tears in my eyes. We did so many fun activities back then, and we loved cuddling up on the sofa with a good book. Now they work independently, for the most part, and I'm thinking about what I'll do in 2 years when our homeschooling journey is over. The years go by so quickly!

Yes, I miss those younger years all the time. I'll have a 7th, 8th, and 10th this year. It seems like yesterday those three were toddling around bothering their brothers during school. It makes me sad.

I have a grandson that will be 1yo on the 20th of this month, and a granddaughter due in October, and I secretly hope I get to homeschool one of them (or both :001_smile:) someday.

Just reading this made me nostalgic, and my girls are only starting K, K, and 2nd! :D We still have time for these things. I'm so glad.

I wonder if your boys miss those carefree, nature-filled, snuggly, exploratory days? Ask them.

What will you do if they say "yes?" :bigear:
