Maisy Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 We're doing Core 3, and I'm wanting to add some new "car-schooling" material to the mix. Would the SOTW 3 CD fit in nicely? We did SOTW 2 two years ago, and I don't remember where it left off (and of course my book is loaned out). Thanks! Lisa Quote
Stacy in NJ Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Hmm, there are a few chapter in SOTW III, maybe 6 or 7, that focus on American history. The Chapters cover roughly from the founding of Jamestown -1607 to the California Gold Rush -1849. It fits in well with Core 3, but there are many chapters covering world history not immediately relevant to American History. We've enjoyed all the SOTW CD's and will be using IV this fall. Quote
StephanieZ Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I haven't used SOTW3 yet (have done 1&2 and will do all 4 again for SL6&7. . .), so I can't say how it would line up . . . But, I would recommend the History of US audiobooks (itunes, audible, etc) for carschooling during Cores 3&4. We already have the texts and have used several volumes of History of US on audio during long car trips. The dc follow along in the text (to see the pictures, etc) while listening to the audio. *I* really enjoy it and it goes right along with the US History theme. If you don't want to invest in the whole series texts & audios, you could just use the audio w/o text (makes perfect sense, they don't refer to pictures or anything) and/or you could pick and choose a couple volumes you think are most interesting or most important. Each volume is 8-12 hours of listening time. Yes, I know we'll be using History of US more in depth in a few years when we do Core100, but I'm not worried. That'll be several years from now and we'll be using it much more intensely (and can reuse our audio as well!) Quote
Maisy Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 I have purchased SOTW 3 on CD--yea! I'm wanting to add some world history into the mix, so I'm glad to know that our "jumping off" time period will be amply covered by SL 3 and included in SOTW 3. I will have to look into the History of the US audiobooks. My kiddos really enjoy that sort of thing. Thanks! Lisa Quote
